HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

I don't even recall the thread's title to be honest... 😂

Amazon or Massdrop. Local prices are high. My 600ohm variant is for sale if you are interested as well. Otherwise gumtree/carb/avforums are the places to look.

Ya, gonna need a few months before getting them, but good to know.

Maybe change the heading as this thread has clearly gone off side. Lol

Audiophile headphone discussion maybe?

Philips SHP9500

Best bang for buck headphone I've ever used for gaming. (R1000 odd in 2017)
Coupled with a Sound BlasterX G5 and a V-moda BoomPro mic.
Would be amazing if we could source it somewhere at that price! But we can't.

Here is the closest available, at $400.

Read this as well: Hold onto that Phillips dude!

I recently bought a DT990 600ohm, and my goodness is it amazing for gaming.

Out of curiosity, what games do you play, as I would like to know that before adding my two cents?

Division, wildlands, tomb raider , metro starcraft, doom and wofenstien.

Mostly aaa with stories. Not pugd nonsense ans quake stuff.

Can confirm, I have a pair coupled with a Sony ECMCS3 mic jerryrigged to my keyboard somehow. I've had them since Mar 25, 2015, thinking of getting new cups for them though.

I've got a pair of Massdrop x Sennheiser HD 58X Jubilee's. First pair of headphones I've owed in 10 years. I like them, but I'm sure someone in this thread will say that they're shit. :p

Now that its an audiophile thread I can speak my mind and say that Beats By Dre are the bestest gaming headphones ever

It might be the bestest, but it is not the best. :D

Hmmm.... Loads of
FPS: Csgo, escape from tarkov, COD, BF.
Surivival games: DayZ, Arma.
Diablo III, Prison Architect, Terraria... Many indie story driven games.
Some rogue likes like Spelunky and Rogue Assassin.
Doing a play through of Witcher 3 at the moment.

Aaaaand go! :D

WHOAH whoah whoah! They are amazing dude! Budget HD660S headphones for the win! I LOVE my pair. Maybe not the best build quality compared to the HD650, but they are rock solid in terms of comfort and audio goodness. EXTREMELY hard to beat at $150.

I am running

BD Amiron 250ohm
BD 990 Pro 600ohm
Senn HD 700

All powered by Schiit Valhalla 2 and a BiFrost DAC.

I will say that the Amiron homes are leading the gaming scene (not for FPS).

Oh nice schitt combo there...

I have yet to demo the Amiron, but they look so damn classy!

What is your thoughts on the Senn HD700? I listened to a set and was not very pleased... Sounded strange and wide. Might have been my ears on the day though.

It is a wider sound stage, the are a bit "brighter" on the high tones. After a burn in period I feel they are better than BD.

Maybe the set I demo'd was fresh? Also did not get much time to listen, was a 5minute song. So my opinion is definitely not fair.

What's next for you?

Rebel send my rma board yara lol

Nyc setup dude. Some of you guys are hardcore!

Was looking at the HD 600 but just discovered that they are open back and as i lan frequently that might be a problem.

Any recommendations of what i should pick up. Dont need a mic and have a decent sound amp

Oof, I have little to no input on closed back dude. Fostex maybe?

I have an amazingly accurate set of NVX XTP100 for sale. Super comfortable, if they were available new locally I would've recommended them to you.

Personally I use AKG 271 MKII at the office, with upgraded leather memory foam pads. Also a great robust and full sounding closed back. Not sure what you will find locally though friend.

Also check out cplan audio in jhb.

Shall have a look at cplan thanks.

I dont buy second hand headies as there is always a good chance someone did the 5 knuckle shuffle while wearing them and that kinda puts me off a bit haha

You have a point... I am also very weary on buying used. Usually from people I know, and when it's not I make sure it is someone with a footprint in the audio world or have some decent kit...

I would never buy a cheapie second hand headset that was not cared for. Yuck!

I see you have a pair of hd 600s, have you gamed with them ?

Yebo yes! Amazing pair of headphones, and possibly the one in my collection at the moment which I will never sell.

Wide sound stage, super accurate (a benchmark for many), comfortable... But sometimes it can be boring. I enjoy the HD58X more for gaming.

They are excellent, and not just because I also own them. For gaming I'm very satisfied with the 58x, for music I might look at upgrading but for just gaming I think I'm sorted for a very long time. I'll maybe just get new pads every year or something

If you could upgrade now, what would you choose for your music?

I'd stay with open back, maybe a mid tier planar set.
I'd most likely mess around with different amps before changing headphones though
