HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

So I don't think this is the same audio quality as the Diamond 12's, but I am currently running a JBL 2.1 Deep Bass Sound Bar (Takealot) under my monitors. I couldn't get speakers situated properly with my monitor configuration, so did an impulse buy in a Stax store.

I've been using it for about 2 years now, and I am quite content with the performance. For movies and shows it is really fun, but sometimes you have to put it a bit louder than talking volume. For music it is is also quite okay, especially for casual listening. For everything else I use my headphones anyway. I mostly use the bar when I am researching or programming at night or over weekends.

I know this is not quite what you asked for, but thought it is worth a mention.
Thanks for the reply and recommendation! Honestly I haven't even thought about a solution like this, quite interesting!

If I could sensibly add 2 bookshelf speakers or monitors, I would've went that route. But the soundbar tech is pretty decent at the moment. I had the opportunity to listen to the JBL bar at Stax in Menlyn. I was honestly blown away by how it sounded, and the form factor suited my needs. So ca-ching. I'm happy with it so far.

Good afternoon, I know this isn't related to headphones so I apologize for that, but I tend to get really good advice on this thread.
I'm looking to upgrade to a passive speaker system for my desktop, I currently have a pair of Edifier R2000Db.
I've been looking at the Wharfedale Diamond 12.2 as an option because the reviews that I've seen seems good for the specific price range.

I see that they also have a combo where you get a AMP + the speakers (Amp speaker bundle) , but I'm not too sure if I will in the future be able to add in a sub with that current setup.

I've also thought about buying the speakers with the following amp FOSI BT30D Pro and using it together with my Fiio K7 as the DAC.

So my question is, will the above be worth it or should I rather look at alternative solutions?

I'm open to any suggestion as well on speakers as well.
Don't spend a cent on bookshelf speakers until you've contacted these guys:

Shop – Home Cinema King

And arranged a demo of the Bentley FR100. These are locally made speakers that are known to beat the pants off anything in their remote price vicinity.

I haven't heard the Fosi amps but my suspicion is for desktop use, they'd be just fine.

I mean if it checks all the boxes for you personal audio needs then it's amazing. I currently have a 2x monitor setup for my pc, but due to the size of my speakers they are about 15-20cm away from one another. So I can definitely see the benefit of an amazing sound bar. JBL make damn good speakers!

Awesome, that is great advice! Let me do that first, I'm going to Epiphany tomorrow to also listen to some speakers for reference so I can make a better informed decision.

Anybody know where I can maybe get some new replacement pads for my dt990s

I have checked on amazon and there are some options but just checking if any local places might sell them

Cheers

Hi not too sure if this site is reputable , I saw it today for the first time but I hope they can sort you out.

Quick little write up.
I've recently gotten my hands on some Sennheiser IE 600's. They sound great but out of the box I already had issues with the MMXC connector (proprietary as usual) letting my left earbud spin like there is zero gravity. Had this issue on both 3.5mm and 4.4mm.

Turning your head or forming the ear-hook, that's a disconnect! Apparently a pretty common issues on all of them (200 / 600 / 900) , some people still experienced this after their 3rd replacement.

Anyway, read around online and found a company called Null Audio. Bought the Ethos Series MKV with the specific connectors that I needed and I'm really pleased with the quality of the cable and how it wears.
It fits the IE 600's really snugly and it's way more comfortable over the ear than the previous 2 cables.

Point of this post is if you need a specific cable with proprietary connections, you can custom make them using their service and it was easy to get it here.

For those running IEM's Daily, what is your Dac solution of choice for using daily at home or work?

Super honest answer? Apple dongle. It's portable, does what it needs to, is better than most people think or expect. As a portable dac it is great, linear and good SINAD.

So my wife got me a ROG Clavis and EPOS H6Pro, for my birthday and man oh man does this shizz slap!!

My dude... Your wife spends more money with me than she spends on you in general (unless her entire purchase history was for you). Thanks!

Hello

Any recommendations for replacing Bose QC35II earpads?

I have looked at the Brainwavz and WC Amazon stores and I do like the velour ones as I have on my DT770, but R700+ seems steep?

That is the going rate for proper pads bud.

On a slightly different note:

I bought Brainwavz for all my old headphones a couple of years ago. The fake protein leather is starting to come off just from sitting in the cupboard. Sadge. :(

Same on my Brainwavz, although I've been using them most days of the week.

A little over 3 years for the pleather to start peeling.
Well, I guess if you use them or not it only lasts a few years.

I'm looking at doing a bit of a DIY velour with the sewing machine... Just not sure how to make the extended 'seam' strong enough to keep the pads on. The foam on them is still 100%. I have 3 sets that needs some attention.

I got these on Amazon.
Very worth, for me. The fabric can be a bit scratchy on facial hair, but I don't mind it.

The Brainwavz, as others said, tends to peel after a while. I'd rather go with micro-suede if you're going that route. My Brainwavz on my PC38X are still lovely, and have survived multiple washes now. :)

Ah Brilliant thank you! Ok, I'll cough up the dough for the decent-ish pads. Thanks all.

It's really funny to me reading how those people (including the husband) shift the blame to the lenders, as if.. accountability is nowhere to be found these days - it's always someone else's fault

Hi team, any recommendations on great bang-for-buck < R1500 headphones?

It's going to be for music listening, all genres, in an office, with occasional calls.

I don't mind if it's a gaming headset or not (laptop has a mic for calls), but it must be over-ear and it must be closed-back. Also strongly prefer wired. I'd prefer new, but would consider a used pair in excellent condition.

Price is pretty firm. I now have to split my time between two offices, I already have decent cans in the main office, so I want to avoid spending a lot on a pair that is probably going to be used temporarily.

Front-runner is the ATH-M20X, but happy for any recommendations.

That's a good choice really!

According to rtings, the best in your category would be the Superlux HD 681:

Also, it's on special here:

If you had to go gaming (or with mic), then I'd suggest the Logitech G433:
