HeaDphone Discussions. (Audiophile and Gaming)

Thanks for the quick response, the Momentum 4 Wireless does look like a great deal, is the HD600 still the holy grail or would the 660S2 be better?
I can maybe even get like Hifiman Sundara's with the M4W
There is a ton of information and comparisons available online. Most of it comes down to preference to be completely honest. I realise that doesn't help you in your search though...

I have been through many, many headphones. I still have the first HD650 I bought, and a HD600 that was bought in the early 2000s (Not by me, I've had her for about 10 years). :D Been through 4 pads myself. She is my daily driver. For everything else, there's Master Card.

Edit: worthwhile to note; I am constantly listening to music. Everything from classical, kpop, metal, throat singing, hard rock... Everything but mumble rap and whatever popular horse shit came out the past few years. The HD600 is perfect for gaming, music and movies. It is flat though. If you enjoy something more colourful, then I would look elsewhere.

From reviews and impressions I've seen, people don't really like the sound of the HD660 S2. Not without heavy EQ. It's definitely capable, but for the price, they miss the mark. Of course this is based on what I've seen, not personal experience.

I would take the Sundara out of both of them, but the midrange of the HD600 is still one of the best, Sundara for everything else. It has more detail, midrange is also really great and it has way more EQ potential, plus being Planar Magnetic means instrumental and sound separation exceeds the HD600 by quite a significant margin.

Thanks for the replies, I think I might just pick up both the Hd 600 and the Momentum 4. It feels like I might kick myself in the rear if I don't pick up the HD 600, I've had my eye on it for a long time and Wootware seems to have the best price on it.

Good pairing. You can't go wrong with those 2. Enjoy! :)

It's actually more warm than you probably think, try out some HD800S w/EQ.

Sundaras are great, have 6xx and Sundara and reach for the sundara every time.
Use them with a ifi dac/amp and the synergy is fantastic

Related to the DT 1990, I only have an Audioengine D1 to drive it with. Do you guys think it has enough juice for the 1990? Or should I look into replacing that at some point?

No! You need more. Let the CUD flow through you. Embrace the life of upgrade and financial distrress.

The ABCs of headphones say Amps Before Clarity. Or as Donut media so eloquently puts it; MORE POWAH BABY!

Got the Beyers!

Coming from an 11 year old DT 770, the 1990 is absolutely stupid 💀

They're surprisingly more than loud enough straight out my phone and laptop, but the D1 really tightens them up nicely. They shit out so much clarity it's unreal, on the border of too much honestly. Hope these last me another 11 years!

Send them to me, I'll confirm if they last 11 years :)

Does anyone know of any cheap local mic options that I can pair with my hd58x? This would be just for discord while gaming so nothing fancy for recording or whatever.
I'm thinking about 1 of those cheapo clip on mics from takealot.

I have a sennheiser gsx1200 which has mic input, so I'll be connecting it there

My brother uses a cheapo lapel mic from Takealot which he fashioned into a boom arm using wire and tape. However the experience is not great, the mic often cuts out, drops volume, needs to be disconnected/reconnected etc. to work.

I'd rather go for one of the FiFine mics, they get decent reviews for the price, last I saw.

I use a Fifine boom mic with my DT990s, and its great

If you have a Nvidia card ( Use Nvidia Broadcast ) its amazing

I second the Fifine options on Takealot. I use one mounted on the back of my table, so it comes out the bottom of my screen. Works great and I never have to worry about a mic again, and I can use any headphone I want.

ps. Feast your eyes on my worldmap meme pad.

When you're gaming do you bring it forward to rest in front of your face?
I sit back and game with a controller, thats why I was thinking I would need something to clip onto me/my headphones

I leave it right there, but don't really lean back in my chair. I am mostly busy typing, reading or try-harding in some game. So upright and forward position for me. :p

I will try and lean back tonight and see what Discord and Krisp does if you want?

If it works just plopped there on your desk while you are on the keyboard then the equivalent for me would be if its at the edge of the desk.
Does it not pick up a lot of noise from the room or outside the window?

Do you run broadcast while using a voice chat app? Never tried it before

Off topic, but what second monitor and arm is that? I was thinking of getting one, but I'd have to move my PC to the floor similar to yours. I didn't think it was ergonomically possible with an ultrawide.

P.S: I also recommend the Fifine mics. Have the same one on a boom arm for years now.

Sometimes it can, but Krisp is fantastic with cancelling unwanted noise. Its free in Discord. :D We are somewhat anal on our Discord when it comes to mic etiquette, and I don't get any complaints so its all good. No clicks or clacks go through. Krisp ftw.

I can't handle a 1080p monitor in portrait, but the 1440p is perfect for it.

The monitor to the right is on one of these (or very similar):

This the one?

I'm not 100% sure which Fifine I have, since I bought mine during lockdown iirc. It looks similar to the K670B, just with a mic sock on.

Huawei MateView GT in the center and a Cooler Master GA271 to the right.
Ahh okay got it. We have the same Huawei, couldn't tell which one that one on the right was. Cheers
