ive narrowed down the options to 3

Asus eah6950 dcii/2di4s/2gd5
-pretty sure this can unlocks
-takes up 3 slots.so not sure if ill be able to cf on my M5A97 Evo
-unsure if its a bios switch or what

R6950TWIN FROZRIIIPE OC
-only takes 2 slots
-no bios switch
-possible it wont unlock

MSI R7850 Twin Frozr 2GD5/OC
-equivalent to 6950 +-(but if i get a 6950 i will unlock it if possible)
-newer range

please feel free to comment and/or give suggestions

6950's pretty much dont unlock anymore afaik , only some of them in the beginning had the possibility. Send Senshi or wootware a pm , 570's and 580's are pretty damn cheap atm. And a 7870 can be had for only a little more than the price on that asus 6950.

Or just wait for someone to sell on carb , 580's are a more common occurrence now .

But if you had to pick from those 3 I would say the 7850

xfx HD-695X-CNDC and HD-695X-CNFC are also in my price range i think.may not have hectic coolers but pretty sure one of them can be unlocked

Oh ok yeah I understand...but out of the 3 options I would recommend the 7850. It kicks ass, and later on when you want to upgrade again, get another 7850, and you'll be sorted for a while

I have searched the forums and people are saying that the 7850 will get better with mature drivers and when the games can take advantage of the 2gig of memory, it'll rock and roll better than the other cards. I dunno. I saw this and I'm apprehensive

Unlikely that the newer 6950s will unlock. The 7850 will OC much much better than a 6950 will unlock in any case.

Sapphire Radeon HD 7850 OC Review - Introduction & Specifications
It is possible to just about match the 7870 in most benchmarks.
I'm guessing you should be able to get very close to that values with most of the 7850s available, going by some of what I have seen.
