Hi all. Finally moving into stage 3 of my home network upgrade.

-Fiber has been moved to the garage.
-ONT sends traffic a Powerline to my DLINK router upstairs, which handles the wifi and DHCP plus hard connections to the computers in the study and lounge
-Server cabinet has been assembled with new Unify equipment and ONT on one of the shelves

Next step is all the cable runs from the cabinet to the various endpoints like where the APs and cameras are gonna go - awaiting that in the next week or two

In the meantime, however, ive thought about starting to set up the UDM Pro and have it start handling the modem and security functions and then powerline traffic upstairs again to the DLINK since its the only source of wifi and hard routing i have now until the PoE runs are in for the Flex.

TLDR : Anyone have any tips on swapping over an old DLINK DIR-825 to be an access point/switch only? From what i've read its basically disabling DHCP, Firewall and other random stuff, but how to disable the wanting to be a modem with PPPoE, etc or would that not be an issue?

Thanks

The D-link shouldn't be an issue as long as you dont use the WAN port as the PPPoE is only tied to that. What I've done in the past is just use a random LAN port and assign it a static IP within the LAN subnet and then from there you can manage it without much hassel and it doesnt need a gateway or anything as it's just bridging the WiFi and LAN networks together. As long as the guest functions are turned off (if your dlink supports it at least) it should be plug and play once the DHCP server is disabled.

There's also a chance it has a bridge mode option in its quick setup where it should just bridge the WAN, LAN ports and WiFi and then it shouldnt matter for the most part as it should auto-disable DHCP from what i remember

Firewall on the D-link shouldnt matter as well as it wont be routing any traffic

Thanks a lot for the reply. The DLINK ended up not routing the traffic to the Wifi so i just replaced it completely with a small 5 port switch and set up an AP next to it with an injector.

No worries, didnt realise it was such a late response but it can help the next person

Glad you came right in the end
