TLDR, should I be entitled to a refund?

I would just like some advise about how to deal with this.

So I made contact with the seller, he agreed to a price, based on the ad quoted below. We made the arrangement to meet up which we did last night. He seemed very insistent to meet me outside his "safe security estate", but seemed nice enough though, so took a chance. He had made some sales before so I thought I'd give him a that chance.

So I plugged it in this morning and noticed the RAM was looking odd on the one side. I removed the removable covers (made this way by Corsair to be able to turn the logo around) to have a better look. So I asked if I could return them for a refund as I don't want to have to deal with Evetech.

His reply:
Hi man, unfortunately no the RAM was sold as is, same as any second hand sale and honestly there is nothing wrong with it besides for a minimal yellow tinge on a single LED setting. The RAM is still in perfect working order and even the RGB is working fine.

I would still have considered a refund just as I would rather the buyer be happy but this morning you informed me that you stripped it. Therefore I'm not even sure if the warranty applies anymore or if any damage was done to the parts etc. Due to this I cant now take the RAM back and try resell it again, I hope you understand.

If you send me your email, I will send you the invoice and you can speak to Evetech directly about the warranty etc. which is listed on their page as a lifetime warranty (really not sure if this would apply to a slightly off colour white LED though).

And when I said that removing the cover wouldn't affect warranty

Well honestly I cant trust that it is the case but if so then Evetech should have no problem is resolving the issue for you.

I'm just upset by this attitude. What would be a reasonable solution?

That's more than just a slight tinge tho. Full refund, and if he doesn't want to assist, check with @Evetech Support if they can help, since it's from them.

His last message to me on whatsapp.

Ok man, I'm not gona sit here and argue with you to make you feel justified anymore after this.

As a buyer there are also certain ways to act and honestly the way you are acting is very suspicious and concerns me with regards to if you did any damage to the RAM or just simply dont want the RAM anymore after the fact. I always try be fair with my sales and again as stated many times there is nothing wrong with the RAM and after you have admitted to me that you tampered with it, I am not prepared to take it back and resell it to someone else. I [won't] accept being ripped off or taken advantage of.

Any further contact you would like to have with me can be done through the forum / forum DMs. Again I'm sorry if you are unhappy but there is nothing I can do about it due to the previously stated reaons in the previous messages/calls.

I am so confused. I had sent this to him the context would have sense, but to turn it around like this.

I have PM'ed and SMS'ed him my email address for the invoice. Still waiting @deansar858.

So I understand you are worried about the warranty being void, but it's not like I removed the heat spreader, there is a shroud cover that goes over the top. I watched a youtube where Linus mentioned how Corsair had designed them to be removed to turn the logo around to keep them all in the same orientation for X99 (and up) boards where the RAM slots are reversed, see below.

@Evetech Support can you confirm this?

@deansar858 please post your side here. It's public now, this is the best place to resolve this.

Hi, sure no problem there is two sides to every story. Firstly, he (@rinners) is actually changing what I said over Whatsapp (to I guess make me seem worse / rude?) which is obviously very concerning and strange. If anyone is really interested I can send screenshots of the actual conversation. Sorry this is going to be a bit long but I think transparency/accurate information and quoting is best here.

Now first off he offered to buy the RAM with no problems and to save him the inconvenience of travelling inside my estate (which requires security checks, pass codes etc.) I met him by the main gate and this was agreed to with no problems or concerns beforehand. The physical meetup/ the sale went smooth and he paid the money and the RAM was given, all was pleasant enough. At no time did he ask me to test the RAM or that he would like to test it before or after buying etc. Furthermore, the RAM was running perfectly in my PC a few weeks ago until I upgraded, took it out and stored it safely. This included performance and the RGB lighting etc. (this all occurred last night).

Now today (the next day), he phones and sends me a bunch of messages saying that there is something wrong with it etc. He then sends an extremely low quality image of the RAM which is set to their White RGB colour state. Obviously there is a small yellow tinge on the one RGB light when in this all white mode. He then proceeds to tell me he stripped the RAM to see what was wrong and try fix it and asked if there is still a warranty on them. I then ask him if its theres any other issues with the RAM and if all the other colours work etc. He proceeds to then send me a video of all of it working fine etc. and saying that he immediately wants a refund as in his words "I don't have time to wait for evetech".

I then proceeded to let him know the RAM was working perfectly before he purchased it and that unfortunately with any second hand sale, it is sold as is and usually no refunds are given unless there is something really wrong with it. Now it is confirmed that there is not any other issues besides a slightly off yellow colour when set to the specific full white RGB mode. I also let him know that I normally would consider refunding the amount but since he has now stripped and fiddled with it, I would feel very worried about whether the warranty would be voided or not and I would not in good conscious be able to sell the RAM to anyone else due to this and other factors. For example; has the RAM now been damaged after he installed it, has he damaged or mishandled it in any way, has he voided the warranty and Evetech policies, is there some type of malicious intent or scam happening, etc etc. the list could go on forever. So due to this, I informed him of the above and let him know I would not be comfortable with giving him a refund, especially seeing as the RAM is in near perfect working order as he has shown me. Furthermore, I immediately informed him that the RAM is under a lifetime warranty with Evetech and that I could send him the invoice if he is really unhappy about it and hopefully they can resolve it for them. After this he seemed to become very strange and defensive. Some of his exact words were, "I don't want to deal with Evetech, they are a pain and will only want to deal with the person that bought it anyway" (I actually initially also offered to ask Evetech for him). He then states "It's fine I'll keep it, but the forum will hear about this". Additionally he links me to another forum and says "Plenty people getting RMA from their off colour LEDs, but Evetech can be chops". After stating my above reasoning for not wanting to refund him again he says that "Ok, if I am being unreasonable lets see what the forum members think", followed with "Ok I've made the post let's see what the mods say". Lastly and very inappropriately he then states "I'm just confused what you think that this an acceptable way for a Christian to act", I'm guessing as he has looked at my Whatsapp profile picture of 2 Corinthians 12:9.

After this I decided that arguing with someone like this would be absolutely pointless and would only antagonize the situation further. I informed him again that because of my concerns and the inappropriate/suspicious way he was acting, I will no longer argue with him and then again stated my reasoning and concerns for doing so. Furthermore, I stated that bringing my religion into it and trying to guilt trip me into refunding him was not going to work as being a Christian does not mean I should accept being taken advantage of. Additionally, after looking at what he posted here he has completely miss quoted me in almost all of the statements he said I made and has purposefully left out sections / words. This all furthered my concerns into what he may have done to the RAM after receiving it from me and from my perspective is very rude/suspicious/scammy behavior. Lastly, I told him that if he would like the invoice as I stated earlier to send me his email on Carbonite and from now on only communicate with me through there. He only just sent me his email to which I have forwarded the Evetech invoice.

So yeah, heres my side but again I will state I am not comfortable giving him a refund for the reasons stated above and I feel that I am justified in that.

And no invoice received as of yet.

There are a few companies I will prefer to have warranties with, Wootware, Rebeltech and Rectron. Others don't seem to have the same desire help and make it as painless as these guys. I'm not even sure what Evetech would do if I showed up with someone else's invoice? Anyone had any success doing this?

And I don't want to have to pay for courier to get it back to them and then back to meet. Evetech courier fees are notoriously expensive. So how about you give a refund, sort out the RMA and then I'll buy them back from you?

And the "low quality" photo is the best I could do when taking a photo without everything being over exposed and all looking completely white.

Also I didn't mention it before, but I received the RAM rolled up in paper roller towel in a plastic packet. No idea if it could do any harm with static It did seem carefully wrapped, just a little odd, I've never seen that before. I moved them actual Corsair Vengeance plastic packaging when I got home.

Received invoice now, thanks.

@Evetech Support can I bring this in, or what is the process if I'm not the original purchaser?

If anyone is familiar with the Evetech RMA process please let me know.

Not to derail but seems you were aware of the issue prior to the sale as per your message to @rinners

I quote:

His reply:

Yet now you claim otherwise:

Hi @FxTreme ,

This is not the case, really unsure how you got to this conclusion. I'm guessing because there is no timeline / timestamps on the quotes. Firstly, the first quote from me "Hi man, unfortunately no the RAM was sold as is, same as any second hand sale and honestly there is nothing wrong with it besides for a minimal yellow tinge on a single LED setting." was said after he showed me the low quality image of the yellow tinge appearing on the RAM, therefore was in response to that (I can see the yellow tinge when set to the specific white mode, I'm not denying that but this was not the case when I last tested it). Secondly, as you quoted me saying the RAM was working perfectly before he took it home, stripped and subsequently asked for refund. Lastly, like I stated in my previous post he altered the quotes/messages that I sent, so taking his quotes word for word without context and the appropriate time-frames is just foolish.

@rinners ,

The invoice has been sent and hopefully Evetech can help you out with it. Again as said if they need to contact me to confirm I sold it to you, this is no problem.

Hi there everyone, that was a lot of reading. However, not to worry. You can bring the RAM into our support team with the invoice. We will then book the RAM in under your name so that there will be no complications :) When you get here, ask for a guy called Vos. Tell him that you are here with the RAM from Carbonite.

Thank you for notifying us :)

Thank you so much. It'll need to be a Saturday, will that work for you/Vos?

Absolutely, we are open from 09:00 to 12:00 on a Saturday. The process will begin that Monday unfortunately, as the suppliers offices will be closed on the weekend :)

@rinners Did you even bother to contact them before sending this? I'm guessing not. All I was given was a Quotation, after which I paid the full amount. I dealt with Vincent Shaw one of their sales executives. Please see the below email from him when the POP was sent through:

"Thank you for placing an order with us [Quote No: 139001]

This is just to inform you that we have received your Proof of Payment (POP), And it has moved on to the next phase.

As soon as the order is completed, you will be notified again of the (Dispatched/Collection) Status.

If you have any queries regarding your order feel free to give us a call , or drop us a email with your query."
and lastly,

"As arranged on placing your order with Evetech.co.za [Order #: 139001]

We would like to inform you that your Order has been dispatched through WORLD NET EXPRESS and it should arrive within 2 to 3 working days.

If you haven’t received your delivery within the specified time, please feel free to contact us and we will follow up for you.

We have attached a Waybill number and a Website URL below which you can utilize to track your parcel."

In future please contact them first and if there is any problems they can contact me directly.

You attitude stinks, @deansar858. When you pay, you get an invoice. He needs that invoice. A quotation is no proof of purchase, but an invoice is. It's not @rinners' responsibility to sort out your shit, but he HAS to do it because you sold him RAM that isn't working like it should and you refuse to assist. If that's how you're going to do business on Carbonite, good luck for your future on here.

As already said I do not have an invoice from them. Only the quotation which was sent through. Also the RAM was perfect when sold, therefore I am not liable for what was done to it afterwards.

As stated if they can't help him with just the quotation then @Evetech Support will need to either send me or him the invoice, which I'm sure they would not mind doing.

@deansar858 I out of not to be shameful dug into this cause I felt it needed an answer, I sent Evetech an email last night (20:40 pm) as to where would 1 find their invoices on my account profile as it is not listed only "orders" and got an answer today please see below what baffles me is why was or is this so hard for you to do @mod Master you can remove this if you feel it's not necessary
