Hello All,

Wootware recomended me this mothboard which i like wootware
I already have a 7800x3d.

I would like to install 4 ddr5 32gb ram chips as this will also be for my home Virtial Machines and so forth.

The Ram is 32gb cl30 at 6000mt each stick so in total 128gb.

If i use all 4 slots. Will it reduce the ram speeds?

The answer is 'It depends'

Ryzen specifically likes 2 sticks that are dual rank chips, or 4 sticks that are single rank.

I have 4x 16gb single rank dimms and it runs amazing.

I tried 128gb (4x32) dual rank and it was fine. I'm talking margin of error speed differences here. It was however, not super stable. I think the memory controller struggled with all the rams ramming.

I would presume that 128gb single rank would fair better, but I'm not sure if single rank 32gb dimms exist.

All of this is based on DDR4 by the way.

I have read and seen a tonne of videos on the struggles of 4x sticks DDR5 at rated speeds, on both intel and AMD.

It seems hit or miss at the moment.

Yes it will reduce the likelihood of it all working at the rated speeds. I've heard some people struggle to get it at above 4400 with 4 32GB sticks. There are also 48GB sticks if you want to go to 2x48GB which will at least get you to 96GB of total ram if you have to.

Ehh most modern boards will bias toward only two sticks even for DDR4 but yes, more ranks makes it harder on the memory controller.

Just on a note on ranks, while there are single and dual rank memory sticks, ranks are counted per channel so 4x32 is quad rank (two ranks per stick and two sticks per channel) but yeah, more channels are harder to run and can incur stability issues.

32Gb chips are still in development but should be around at some point as Samsung announced their first chips in September last year.

Your motherboard will indicate what speeds it can run with 4 DIMMs and which RAM is confirmed to work at certain capacities and speeds.

You've decided to go 2 by 32gig DIMMs which is much better for compatibility so that's a good choice. Don't go 4 DIMMS unless you're using a known tested config.
