Hi Carbonite,
I just saw that makro has the KingMax SMV 240GB @ R600
That's looks really cheap for an SSD.
Quick Google / YT search shows the read/write/4k speeds are ok... obviously waaaaaaay better than the HDD I have now.
I don't really know very much about PC hardware, but I did try some quick research and found that dram-less SSDs are not well regarded ... but looking at the info available, I can't tell if this SSD has dram or not ... although they do mention "SLC caching technology" on the KingMax website... so does that mean it does have DRAM?
Just trying to see where's the catch here ... or if this really is a good deal.

In case it's useful at all: I want the SSD for my home PC used for streaming, browsing, and media consumption... so I don't wanna spend any more than R600 (... unless someone has an SSD that's 1000000x better for R650 :D )

For general use, DRAMless is fine. I got the 120GB version for my grandfather @R300. He will be going from an 8 year old drive filled with viruses and crap which takes 10 minutes to load into Windows (literally) to a clean install of Windows on the SSD.

For streaming, browsing and media consumption it would not really matter if your SSD has DRAM cache or not. I would suggest getting the BX500 mentioned above though.

Matrix Warehouse sell the Kingmax brand and I have bought some as a last resort.

They work well and have had no issues with them.

Used in systems for basic or office use.
Client has had no issues so far.

Upgraded from hdd, so all they see is a huge speed boost compared to before.

As for Dram cache vs. no cache, the difference is small for basic/office use.
It only matters if you do large file transfers, then the cache will kick in.
