Catholic Eucharist Communion Wafer Press (Tongs)
The press was used for making the Sacramental Bread of the Eucharist in the 1800s, by the Catholic Churches.
It was made by blacksmiths from heavy wrought iron, and then afterwards the impressions were engraved as per request.
The iron tongs could be coated in a black paint to prevent rust from occurring, otherwise it should be treated with oils after each use.
The Sacramental Bread was generally pressed by the nuns of the church before the Eucharist using unleavened bread.
The Mold face contains 5 impressions in total.
Both of the larger impressions display Christ on the cross, as well as Angels, which are the faces with angel wings.
Properly cleaned off the excessive rust without ruining the external patina, and oiled to prevent further rust.
The Mold face is in perfect condition, no damage or loss in detail.
The Mold face still has some of the original black anti-rust coating.
Hinge is all original and opens smoothly.
Weight: 8.2 Kg
Height: 85cm
Length: 20cm (at the Mold face)
Width: 10cm (at the widest part of the handle)
I will courier to anywhere in South Africa.
