Hi everyone :)

So over the years of seeing some people get scammed I want to offer this service.

Escrow Service

Basically being the middle man between 2 members dealing on Carbonite.

Option 1
Process will be something like this if I take hold of the item in sale:

Buyer and seller agrees on a price and notifies me.
I will confirm the price with both parties.
The item will then be collected/shipped from the seller to me.
I will test the item
The buyer will then pay me the amount.
I will deliver/ship the item or collected by the buyer.
If collected cash will be received by me and item handed over.
If shipped to buyer the item will only be shipped once the seller has received the funds from me.

Option 2

I act only as a keeper of the Funds
When funds clear in my account the seller can ship the item
RISK of of shipping needs to be VERY clear and I recommend proof of item condition to be obtained before hand.
Buyer receives and test within 48h
Buyer gives go ahead and I release the cash to the Seller

Costs flat rate = 5% of the value of the item.

This excludes shipping costs, Any risk in shipping will still remain on the buyer or whatever the sellers and buyer agrees.
I can arrange insured shipping with The Courier Guy - No insurance against damage though.
I will provide proof of working items where needed. The fee will be charged to the buyer if the item does not function as advertised.

I've considered the same with Battletoad's scam. I think it's a brilliant idea. Depending on how big this gets, I'll be willing to help with anything in this area (I find it a little daft to ship an item from PTA to CPT and then to JHB, but that's just me!).

Lol yeah I hear you. I think the people that will benefit from it the most are the newbies on here. I see alot of sale threads where the guy does not live in main area or the buyer and seller is just too far away from each other, both with low itraders but they want to go ahead with the deal.

If you do deal between PTA and JHB its anyways better to just collect the item on the weekend in person :p Petrol is much cheaper these days.

Great idea, it will offer much added protection but the fees are bit steep, item for R1500 will cost R150 but R1600 will cost R80...
Maybe need to work on your fee structure and make it bit cheaper.

how do i remove a duplicate post? sorry...

Maybe need to work on your fee structure and make it bit cheaper and what happens if something doesn't work properly???

Denz1001 has a point. A floating/variable fee is a better idea. People are going to exploit you in that view, I'm sure of it.

I would say R100 is a min,

Maybe R100 for items up to R2000 and R150 for R2001 to R4999 and R200 for anyting over R5000?

Thats reasonable, so is this done at the buyers cost or shared by both seller and buyer? I assume the seller should pay if the item doesn't work?

how are you going to test a AMD cpu if you dont have a AMD motherboard and via versa.

or will you have a test bench with all kinds of hardware to test things with.

Yes I agree, of the item is not working then the seller will pay. The Service fee will be split between the seller and buyer yes :) I will add this in.
kevinswan007

I do have parts that are not in use that will be used to test hardware yes. Part of the fees will contribute to gaining some more test benches.
Right now it wont be worth to look AMD setups (its just a board that I need) but I will add them later if this takes off well. I can ofcourse still test bundles (board + CPU)

This is a great service, wish we had this when I was scammed!!!! Will fully support this for any user under 5 iTrader!!!

A brilliant idea me thinks and hope it takes off.

I think however, you should team up with someone in JHB and another in DBN at least to make transport feasible...imagine a bloke from dbn wanting to buy from someone in say newcastle or vice versa....and having to do a deal via cape town, just food for thought...

Jip, I reckon any good member can run the same thing for local deals in those areas. I want to keep it secure and that means only dealing with myself :p

If anyone from Durbs and Joburg want to join in let me know and we can discuss something.

I think this is a really nice idea. Especially for big ticket items between comparative unknowns. I personally would be more than happy to drop a couple of hundred rand more to get the peace of mind if my purchase is over 5k. I believe members would be much more willing to make some purchases they would otherwise avoid (due to low i-traders) if this got up and running. Good luck with your venture, bud!

Good idea but with what blogbytes said. Was tried and never succeeded so why will it be different now.

Subscribed!

I would probably use something like this. I don't nearly suffer from CUD (yet), and so – whereas I constantly monitor Carb – I will have sales/purchases that are few and far between. As a result, virtually impossible to get my iTrader rating up. This would no doubt help.

Superflan Its a service I am willing to offer to who ever wants to use it. Even if I only help with 1 deal to avoid a scam I am happy. At what point would it succeeded or fail?

Not all the new people would know about this or even the scammers might try to avoid it. But yes I agree it would lower the chance for scams as a scammer will deny to use this service that could have a better ending I guess.

How to transfer the money?
Additional EFT Transfers would cost money.
The proxy would have to ensure the payment has cleared before releasing the item.

This alone could take up a part of that R100 fee.

Definitely a gap in the market for this, even Gumtree buyers/sellers would be very open to a service like this.
Just be careful, there will be loopholes and the scammers will find them, play it 100% by the book or else fingers will get burnt.
