Bulldozer

I seriously doubt that a significant portion of the market will ever be able to afford multi screens and gpu's such as yourself. So I doubt developers would drive gaming into a direction where consumers wont be able to afford the product.

I personally think gaming is moving into the console direction...sadly. Majority of PC games are console ports anyway...

So building a 40k rig just to play battefield 3...I dunno, just does not make financial sense to me.

Valid point.. :)

i think what everyone is not thinking about, is how absolutely fantastic the prices were when sandy was released. if intel didnt sell such a pocketrocket, AMD would have been able to make a killing.

yes, i know that the next bunch is coming out in a few weeks, but i dont think there will be a major price drop like in the past when the new successors are released

it seemed to me that in the past, intel used to sell high, and drop prices (like 25-30%) when the faster processors are being released. this time it looks like they started at the bottom, and the "successors" will just slot into a higher price bracket

btw, has anyone thouight of the CPA and just take a set of bulldozer and ask your money back after a month. I know its not ethical, but I wonder about the implications of it

All i want to say after reading a review (scored 58%)
Is LOOOOOOOOOOOL at AMD ......... Again :)
All the wait and hype for nothing

From the hardware Canucks review:

"AMD are quick to boast that Zambezi has two 2 additional cores, a huge chunk of cache, and a lot more megahertz than the competition, but at the moment it doesn't seem like they have been able to squeeze much extra performance from all those bits and bobbles. As it stands, in most instances, AMD are lagging behind Intel when it comes to performance per dollar, performance per watt and performance per square millimeter of die space. The good news for AMD fans is the Pilediver refresh should be arriving in early 2012, albeit in APU form first, and they claim a 10-15% performance increase. However, even that threatens to be totally eclipsed since Intel's upcoming mainstream Ivy Bridge processors are also launching sometime in early 2012."

Sums it up quite well I think.

lags behind the 2600k in most benchmarks and weak gaming performance.. though amd have stated that it wasnt meant for gaming

I'm really disappointed by this. Even if BD just equalled a 2500K's performance for a slightly higher price, that would've been awesome, but with the pricing structure and performance at the current level, I don't think AMD will be selling many BD chips. It's a pity, as even though AMD has never been the performance king, their CPUs at least offered tremendous value for money.

But when Ivy bridge comes - we are going to pay through our teeth for it since AMD has failed to offer a decent cpu.
How it usually is with Intel. Pay through your teeth for something that is only marginally better. Not AMD's fault. :p

It's amazing how the intel fanbois can complain about AMD's prices. Show us which Intel CPU provides the same performance money wise as AMD. Seems they are holding AMD to a standard Intel fails. LMFAO

The only thing disappointing is that there seems to have been the expectation that it will blow Intel out the water at a fraction of the cost. That was never a valid expectation. Sorry but that's just the way it is.

The 2500K shows very good value for money

The reviews I've seen state that the CPU comes with a hydro cooler that looks like a H70 or Antec 920. Does anyone know if this is true for all BD chips?
That makes the price a bit more comfortable for me, considering the cost of these coolers.
R2799 for the AMD FX X8 8150 at my local PC Shop.

You do realise the i5 2500k is FASTER than the 8150 FX and about R400-R600 cheaper?

There goes your argument.

Each AMD PIB comes with:

* A high-performance AMD processor
* AMD-qualified heat sink and fan with thermal interface
* Installation manual
* AMD processor case sticker
* Certificate of authenticity
* Three-year limited warranty

Ok water cooling it is

Hitler finds out about the AMD Bulldozer benchmarks - YouTube

Anandtech tried getting their 8150 to 5GHz, didn't succeed and hit 404W power draw @ 4.8GHz, so aftermarket cooling is going to be a necessity.

As Deadmeat noted the current chips all come with default air coolers which won't let you OC for sh_t. Looks like AMD might release a separate CPU + liquid cooling bundle for those who intend to OC, but obviously that will push the price well past the R 3k mark.

I can't comment from experience, heretic. I haven't even held a quad or hexacore chip, never mind tried to unlock cores.

If anyone wants to go Bulldozer, I recommend the 8120 over the 8150 for 24/7 use. I know I'll be picking up an 8120 for my personal 24/7 use, for my own reasons :)

Even if it can unlock, Unlocking doesn't guarantee 100% stability so it would suck if you bought it and it wasn't stable once unlocked. You'd basically have an Athlon x4 :(

Awesome value for money if it does unlock and is stable however.

ln2? :p

And of course, memory overclocking has been opened nicely:

And SuperPi is possible at 8GHz:

What OC is it running on the DG charts?

Guess people ([Flame suit]on here[/Flames suit]) tend to forget computers aren't only used for gaming :p

Oj0 so which one do you think I should get? FX8120 or FX8150?
It'll be running on a Asus Crosshair V 990 with 16GB DDRIII 1600 ram.

Nvm price difference is tiny so getting FX8150.

Only the 8150 is available, I haven't seen samples of the 8120 at all. If you're buying now, 8150 it is. Next year, 8120.

I lol'ed, some guys are really blinded by "fanboism"... or maybe just dumb...I dunno.

2500k is the price vs performance king. ;)
