Hi all
So the bulb in my boot currently shines with the power of a thousand blackholes and I want to replace it with an LED strip.
Cars are 12v so that's easy. What's not easy is the wattage and amperage draw through a system that wasn't designed for it.
I'm looking at getting this strip in cool white (they give the option of 14 000K but I have no idea what that is).

Product Specifications:
 • Item Code: 2835-STRIP-IP68
 • Waterproof: Ip68 (WaterProof & UV Proof)
 • Applications: Outdoor Lighting, Fish Tanks
 • Certificates: CE and ROHS
 • Type of LED's: SMD 2835
 • Qty LED's: 60/Meter
 • Input DC: 12V
 • Power: 12Watts/Meter
 • Power Supply for 5m - 84 Watts
 • Power Supply for 10m - 200 Watts
 • Working Current: 1Amps/Meter
 • Dimensions: 10mm x 8mm x 5M
 • Vewing angle: 120 Degrees
 • Mounting: 3M Double sided Tape
 • Cutting and or Reconnecting: Every 50mm
 • Colours: Blue, Cool White
 • Lumens/Meter: 1250
 • Warranty: 3 Years

@0jo, I think you'll know a bit about this? Anyone else?

Thanks in advance

You can use any LED strip, the amperage won't be an issue. LEDs draw A LOT less power than those bulbs, so you'll be fine. I did this on the interior of my old Jetta many years back. Footspace lighting, under seats, in boot, etc. etc. Worked amazingly to find lost stuff.

Excellent to hear! Thanks. How did you get the underfloor lights to link up to the door being opened?

I want to get an LED Festoon Bulb like this for the roof LED

I hotwired them to those switches in the door that does the roof lighting as well. Works easily. Also installed a 2w pot with an additional switch that enabled me to switch them on even with the doors closed, and to dim them as needed.

Oh yes, and as a PS, this was in a 1989 Jetta. Old car, old electronics, meaning they were hard and easy to hotwire. I don't take responsibility if you stuff up something in your own car, but I don't see why it'll be less effective!

I also did red LED strips in my cluster and behind my fan controls in my old Uno, I literally just wired it up to the existing wires running to the bulbs that were there, didn't have any issues.

I did Greekking boot with 3 x 3small strips. some wire and heat shrink.
20 mins and done. now you can see it from a Km away.

Did you install shagpile carpet, a rocking sound system and a condom dispenser as well? Sounds pimping.

I'm going to try find the wires linked up to the doors but I need a muli-meter reading device first. I'm going to do all the things. Boot, ceiling and footwells.

My Corolla will look like a really slow and boring but bright Fast and the Furious car.

JollyJamma - and here i was thinking that you wanted a nice LED strip to do it's thing during your pc boot up...

Which model Corolla? Im sure we can slap a kit together and ship it down to you or better still Greekking we go and get some parts an do a boot install build on the weekend.

I know, right?
Its a newer model than that but still.

I'm going to get the LED strip in December when I have money again.

Should be great!
