Deal Thread URL: https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?threads/x399-designare-ex-gigabyte-mobos.383819/
Seller: @Rsa_Soutie
Buyer: @Toy Machine
Description of Bad Deal: Product condition not as advertised. Seller refusing to help sort the issue or take any responsibility.
Preface:
Whatsapp chat & media will be provided. Pictures & videos on first inspection will be provided.
I approached seller with this information as I found it out.
Timeframe is a bit sensitive since this is over the course of a week due to trying to find a CPU.
I'll be the first to state I got these for a killer deal monetarily. & I'm now glad a didn't pay a penny more given the response I've received in seeking any help from this seller.
Discrepancy in advertised condition is entirely separate from agreed upon amount.
Thursday 09/09/2021: I enquire about the boards in question. After much back & forth throughout the evening we agree upon a deal & to be shipped out on Friday 10/09/2021. Which it does, I asked for it to be kept at seller's residence throughout the weekend to avoid sitting in a depot(TCG) over the weekend which the seller did not entertain, said it has to go out on the Friday. Which it did & I receive the following Monday, 13/09/2021.
Monday 13/09/2021 - Received & do initial inspection of the board to which I find no physical damage. Something I should have clarified is that I did not inspect the CPU socket & said to the seller that I found no bent pins. Which I was referring to the Mobo & fan headers not PCU socket. We'll conclude the deal once I see them boot & working(I had to find a CPU to test with). Something I immediately noticed & expressed in the initial inspection voice note to the seller was that I have a gripe with how the seller advertised these products - "Condition:excellent never been used". This did not seem to be the case as I immediately noticed that they seem to be refurbished boards as the sellotape holding them closed has the letter "R" printed on it, which to my knowledge is a indication of RMA/refurbished products, but overall it wasn't a trainsmash. I expressed this to the seller immediately after inspecting & taking photo's as they came out the box. 10 minutes later these were back in their Anti-static's & put on a shelf for the entire week whilst I find a CPU.
A number of forum member can confirm me asking around for a CPU until my thread asking for one for testing purposes here: https://carbonite.co.za/index.php?threads/tr4-cpu-to-test-for-the-weekend.385264/
Rebeltech kindly supplied me with their 1920x which is below [& now I am glad it didn't cause any damage to this cpu since I only caught this when uninstalling the CPU]
Friday 17/09/2021 - As said above I did not look at the CPU socket on Monday, first thing I do is inspect for bent pins Board 1 is fine, board 2 seems to have 2 pins in question, whether this is just light refracting differently off pins in question or actually bent pins is still unknown. I take pictures & immediately convey this to the seller. Another I noticed that confirm the boards, at least one has been used is that the CPU socket cover has thermal paste on it, indicating signs of use. Take said CPU & test boards, both power on and boot into windows, no problem, both boards were also on 2 of the latest BIOS versions - F11 & F12. I updated the F11 to F12.
Now my issues properly start. In the provided video as I am uninstalling the CPU from Board 2 - I notice the CPU socket is loose from the PCB specifically screw "3" on Threadripper motherboards (bottom left). Obviously this is a pressure mounting system to hold the cpu in place & differences in pressure can cause faults to system components. I grab board one to confirm this isn't the case for board 1 or that it isn't natural, to which it is not, also have a video of this. Also sent off to the seller immediately.
When I mention this to the seller their response is "but is it working?" & just before this admits "I don't see anything wrong lol i don't know these boards"
My frustration with this all really begins with the sellers stance on the situation when I present these physical issues to them.
Their stance are the following points:
- I cannot supply warranty as sold without warranty (but will provide 7 days, not weeks)
EDIT: I received the units on Monday 13/09/2021 -therefore warranty would technically still be valid until tomorrow (20/09/2021) - Given this hasn't been resolved as yet I imagine would carry forward.
- You say everything is 100% fine(initial inspection 13/09/2021) and now it's not(secondary inspection on 17/09/2021) & I cannot accept this as you've worked on them and it's my fault & shipping is my risk.
- Boards were not faulty in his possession.
During these few days I asked the seller to please find out if the packaging for the boards exist in any capacity since he procured these from someone who is in IT that they know. I am yet to receive a response to this request of them actually asking the person they bought from.
My frustration grows even more so with these points:
- The seller did not inspect the boards themselves, they would not take them out their packaging until I made the payment. I could only see the actual product once payment was made.
- No physical inspection buy the seller was done on the product they were selling & so they couldn't have known about this issue, & then I am being blamed for causing the damage when I present the issue.
- Overall lack of reception from the seller in trying to help me out in any way whatsoever in trying to help me as the buyer. Instead standing behind these points of no warranty & I caused the faults presented. Whilst my intention the entire time has been transparency to keep the seller aware of the condition which was not as advertised. So much for that.
My goal the entire time here has been to find the root of where these boards came from, that has to come through the seller so that we may get the board in question back to whoever RMA'd/refurbished it & make them aware of the socket damage in question. That starts with contacting the IT person the seller bought the boards from. & they are unwilling to do so apparently.
I am more frustrated with the manner in which the seller is handling this situation that the actual damage. I approach them for help to get it resolved & constantly shut me down claiming no responsibility on their side in this deal & wants nothing to do with it. & to make it clear, I am more interested in sending this board in for repairs than to return it to this seller as I would like to keep the board. I was never going back to the seller to get a refund, but rather to get to the root as described.
@Rsa_Soutie Let me make this abundantly clear to you, regardless of how this situation plays out I will never deal with you again, your lack of etiquette & willingness to help is frankly appalling for post sale. I have stated to you I am trying to go through you to get to the people who fixed the board in the first place, but you want none of it. That's just simply not how you handle a deal or a customer given that you are treating this as a business, in whatever capacity that is.
Apart from the the above request, I have another which is to please provide me with an invoice for the products once this is resolved.
@Mods I will provide the WA chat & media to whoever handles this as I have everything saved & backed up.
