Anybody tried the checkers gaming monitor ?

this is the screen 27 inch that checkers just re branded

If this is entirely the case, then an interesting thing to note is the dot pitch they list there is in fact that of a 2560x1440 monitor.
I won't have mine for a few weeks still, my uncle had to buy one on my behalf at a Checkers near him, and since I've got the 'rona he couldn't come through to me even if he weren't already in a completely different 'district' anyway, so...

Someone get CRU and try creating a custom resolution of 2560x1440 using LCD - Native or LCD - Reduced timing, all other values set to auto, starting at a refresh rate of just 60Hz and see what happens?

It would explain why people are saying the image looks blurry or 'scan-liney'; because it's being scaled.

We just might be looking at one of the best possible deals we could hope to get in this shitshow of a year.

Ive attempted 1440p with CRU, its a no go this is definitely a 1080p panel.

Checkers mall of Africa has stock if people are still looking

Anyone that have these can confirm if they have built in speakers?

My 27 inch xceed monitor will only get to 120hz refresh rate on DP to DP cable with a nvidia card.

144hz results in a black screen

I had a similar issue on HDMI, 120hz would be fine but 144hz wasn't working at all. I changed my HDMI cord to a high speed one, updated GPU drivers and restarted laptop + screen. Now it's working.

That's very interesting, I tried cru and added a lcd native res of 1440p 60hz and it actually seems to work. The osd shows 1440p.
Text however is a bit weird, that might be my sharpness setting or something. Hopefully it can be resolved.

*Edit 1440p @ 95hz seems to be the best I can get. Enough to make things feel smooth. Text is still not great. Still a little fuzzy and 1080p looks sharper.
But the monitor OSD confirms the res is 1440p and Windows shows it's active res is 1440p

VERY tempting was gonna get a 4k TV for my pc (odd i know) but this seems much better in terms of smoothness.

Damn its now 2599 and 4299 special over, anyone selling their 27

You can probably find these screen on gumtree or Facebook for a bit more than retail. I see posts quite often when I'm scrolling.

Sweet. Is this with LCD - Native timing? If so, try it with LCD - Reduced, see if you can increase the refresh rate farther.

One of the constraints will be the pixel clock, which is talked about briefly here: CRU (Custom Resolution Utility) Tips, Tricks and Monitors OC (LCD/LED/CRT)
And for which there's a calculator here: Pixel Clock Calculator - Monitor Tests

Apparently for 8-bit the max theoretical pixel clock on displayport 1.2 is 360Mhz: Display Port v1.2 (Maximum Pixel Clock Rate)? - Blur Busters Forums.

Obviously, there's some stuff not covered entirely to learn to tweak this properly - stuff I'm not keenly familiar with myself yet.

Once I get mine I just might crack it open and get technical specifications on the panel and/or controller used, might be able to get the exact timings necessary to get it running 'properly' at 1440P if that's the panel's native res, up to w/e the max refresh rate for it is also.

But hell, even 'just' 90Hz 1440P 27" with FreeSync at R3,000 will have been the deal of the year tbh if the panel is native 1440P.

Can't wait till the 27th when I can get mine to play with...

I'm afraid this is stuff that's way above my head. I tried a bit but can't get anything stable above 90hz, which incidentally is just slightly above 360mhz pixel clock, at 362.55.
Will wait for you or someone else more knowledgeable than me to try 😅

I saw one newsync advert that says it can go to 165hz anyone test it?

CS Go at 120hz is butter.

I have tried 5 different cables. They cables are the limiting factor,

The EDID info from the monitor firmware is wrong.

I need to go to work. Will play with it after that and post more.

Help needed.

Can you download monitorinfoview and run it. Select view, lower pane, all display modes. Then past your info. This will help in setting up the custom res.

Are you using the HDMI or DP cord for 1440p setup, also the HDMI cable that came with the screen is high speed so it should be fine ?

I have tried multiple cables (DP to DP, HDMI to HDMI, DP to HDMI, Gold plated HDMI to HDMI(expensive), Dell HDMI to HDMI cable). Right now my DP cable is not good.

The HDMI cable I got with the monitor is not HDMI ver 2.

I used the gold plated HDMI to HDMI cable to get it to 120hz. It does go higher.

I played CS GO at 1440p at 120hz. ANd it works flawlessly.

My card is 1080 with a HDMI 2.0b port. DP is v1.4

My dad got the 27" version.

Not going to lie, that thin bezels and metal casing look sexy!

Very jealous indeed.

Here's what mine says when connected via HDMI:
640 X 480 60 Hz
640 X 480 72 Hz
640 X 480 75 Hz
800 X 600 56 Hz
800 X 600 60 Hz
800 X 600 72 Hz
800 X 600 75 Hz
1024 X 768 60 Hz
1024 X 768 70 Hz
1024 X 768 75 Hz
1280 X 720 60 Hz
1280 X 960 60 Hz
1440 X 900 60 Hz
1280 X 1024 60 Hz
1280 X 1024 75 Hz
1400 X 1050 60 Hz
1920 X 1080 60 Hz
1920 X 1080 100 Hz
1920 X 1080 120 Hz

I've also been able to get 1440p @ 120hz over HDMI, but not 144hz. The HDMI cable i'm using is this: Club3D Premium High Speed HDMI UHD Cable (3m)(Black) | Computers | Buy online in South Africa from Loot.co.za

The only disappointment in using HDMI is lack of G-Sync, I might stay with 1440p 90hz on DisplayPort for gaming

How do you experience it? Is it as bad as the media says?

Very curious to know (if you are comfortable sharing)

Honestly, the worst thing about it was that the Sunday morning before booze was going to become available again, I was throwing up and had a fever, and from Monday to Wednesday when I got my results I inherently (a) wasn't supposed to and thus didn't visit a liquor store and (b) even if I could have, I was definitely sick with /something/ so drinking was a really bad idea - and now that I'm under house arrest the second-worst thing is having to wait so long before I can get my monitor 😂

Otherwise though, my most notable symptoms were:
* constantly feeling 'tired' - not a "I am sleepy" kind of tired nor a "my body has exerted much physical effort" kind, but still one where it felt like I could go lie in bed and just sleep for a week at least
* feeling 'slow' physically - I didn't feel short of breath and could breathe deeply, but it just felt like I couldn't get my body to go at more than half-speed if I wanted to
* the Saturday evening preceding the vomiting I got a lot of nausea and indigestion, and my stomach hurt enough I didn't want to do anything physical until at least the Wednesday, indigestion remained until Thursday morning (nausea was gone by Monday evening, but only felt bad enough to induce vomiting Sunday morning)
* stomache "wasn't right" from Sunday evening till Wednesday evening - not quite diahrrea, but still 3x vs 1x toilet visitations per day, loose stools
* loss of appetite Sunday-Wednesday
* some minor body aches until Friday
* only started getting a cough of note by Tuesday, got to its worst by Sunday, still cough some if I talk a bunch (on discord say) but it's never felt like an "oh shit I'm sick" cough, just a "ugh I've got to cough brb muting mic" non-productive one which is triggered by the throat
* minor headaches here and there, but those have almost all felt like sinus-related ones
* minor sinus-congestion/cold-like symptoms Wednesday-Thursday

So basically, honestly, I thought I had a stomache bug or ate something bad and had a minor bout of illness surrounding only that. I got tested through Pathcare, so one could hope they don't have 'tainted' test-swabs and aren't getting many false-positives; my test result, as far as I can tell from the photo my doctor sent me, had a 'critically high' presence of the virus in the test swab.

btw, the swab gets stuck farther than you thought something could go into your nose and hurts some, feels like someone's sticking a small blade in there which eventually gets twisted too. I get to go for that again on this Friday.

Now someone make the 20th (miscalculated, yay, a week sooner than I thought!) arrive so I can get my monitor! :D
