Any M140i owners on the forum that could share their experience?

Common issues / things to look out for / recommended proactive maintenance?

Potentially looking at buying one:
  1. 2017 model, 5 doors
  2. Manual transmission - wondering if this is a good idea.
  3. ~60 000km on the clock
  4. FSH, tires, brake pads just done.
Would love any thoughts

Check the charge pipe of the car, if it's still plastic it will break most likely under heavy load in 3rd gear on a highway pull. So that will need to be replaced by a metal pipe.

These cars are really heavy on fuel, you'll see the gauge move down while you're sitting in a long McDonalds drive through queue. So factor that in, they use a lot of fuel. And tyres.

Generally super fun cars, but if things go wrong it will be costly.

Edit: fuel pump will generally go out at around the 110k km mark

Also, don't be the doos that wears these all of a sudden now that you drive that car

Don't get manual... Gearbox is weak... Second Gear Synchro Breaks Easily When Snap Shifting ...

I broke mine and know of 4 others ..

2017 means Gen 1 B58... you must do the updated Injectors from the LCI Model .. around R2500 each... X 6
If not the old injectors will get stuck open and grenade engine.

Coolant Bottle Cap... Check Coolant Pipework - R350 ( Pipework Various R1000+ )

Plastic Charge Pipe must be changed - R4800

Check if smoking on start up or on idle ... PCV Valve to watch our for ... Easy fix if caught early ...

Price should be around R450 to R480k anything more is premium tax ...

Shit ... Fuel is a bitch... Mine is 12.5 l/100km ... Average ... Manual is terrible on highway ... 120km/h is around 2800 rpm in 6th Gear

I got a 125i with a stage 2 tune. Got it at 60k on the clock, put in around 50k since I got it 3 years ago. Been a dream with maintenance, nothing but a small oil gasket that was easy to replace and cheap.
