Hi, I'm new to this forum and thought I would start a thread for fun.
For fun, with an extremely boring topic, the subject of which may infuriate some legacy AMD GPU owners.
I say may but it's actually definitely.
Now I own a legacy Radeon VII gpu which is still sort of going strong, unless you install the latest drivers, in fact, unless you install any drivers at all... why? you may ask...
Because of this particular windows service known as the AMD External Events Utility, a service geared towards Vsync management of games in windowed mode, so, if you are running your OS at 2160p but want to game at a resolution a step lower and instead of using fullscreen exclusive mode choose windowed mode and your sh*t starts crashing or your drivers start timing out... Since I game & discord team chat (instead of voice) I have this issue with a lot of games and my legacy Radeon...
Perfect example of this: Diablo IV... which isn't geared towards legacy pre-RDNA2 cards at all, absolutely unplayable unless the AMD External Events Utility service is stopped, thereby disabling sketchy Vsync/Freesync implementation on NVDA centric titles and/or certain Freesync-supporting but probably not very well supporting screens...
Anyway, it's convoluted and overall rather annoying, but my advice to any AMD GPU owners struggling with newer titles, vsync, freesync, framerate bottle necks etc - disable the AMD External Events Utility and toggle Enhanced Sync and you should notice performance and stability improvements.
AMD Drivers are shite, we all know this, and subsequently so are AMD extra device services trying to manage Vsync disparities across OS, games and applications.
