Hi
So I have not looked at investing at all, ever, outside trying to buy BitCoin (and loosing R20k) and playing with that Plus500 or 500Plus thing's demo mode.
As far as I can tell i have 3 options open to me:
1. Invest in the JSE and thus only invest in companies listed on there
2. Get that Plus500 thing and invest in the (apparently) very small list of items available through them
3. Go to a professional broker and pay him more per year than the sum total of everything I want to invest...
...or option 4, die and come back as an American.
I want to invest a very small amount of money (R1,000 or so) in a company who's stock price has remained all but constant at 0.3 EUR for the past year or tree. It's not seen much growth but I would still like to say "I am a stockholder" and if they one day make something of themselves then awesome, I become the next Bill Gates and it only cost me R1000 and a bit of faith 😅😶.
The problem I keep running into is: "Please provide us with your US SSN and your US address to open your account" or "Welcome, South African, to the JSE where we don't list the company YOU care about. Why not invest in what WE would like you to?"
Is there a place that allows south Africans to create an account and invest in companies NOT just on the JSE? I found a few that offer commission free trading in stocks (only charging for the other stuff they do) and this is really great for me since I just want to make a once of splurge of stock buying and then forget about it till the day I see I am the next "richest man alive" (...or I die, which ever comes first...) but those are all for US citizens only
Does anyone know of such a place where South Africans can create an account?
Thanks
