Keyboard Nut Thread

I have everything, but located in Pretoria East. Maybe that 120 is better spent to Pudo the board to someone that can sort it out.

If you can get the board to me, I will sort out any and all issues you have with it. I have extra switches and what not. :) Mahala.
Probably easier for the meneer than if he tried to send it to me in Cape Town

Budget is plus minus around 2-2.5k and looking at a 75% board. Prefer liner switches...wireless would be a nice to have but not a deal breaker if it's not.
Check out the Keychron K2 Pro.

It ticks all of your boxes but it is on the higher end of your budget. However, you'll be able to throw any switch in there (3-pin and 5-pin) and experiment with other modding options such as foam, tape, lubing stabilisers etc.

The older K2 is still my daily. I've changed the switches and keycaps many times but the board has survived.

Also, if you're not scared of a slightly bigger, wired keyboard, the Montech Mkey TKL is much cheaper and should be just as customisable.

It's also worth checking out Ctrl Shift Esc for any specific parts you're looking for.

TBH the Montech Mkey is one of the options I am considering as a starter board.

I have checked the keychron boards, isnt this blue tooth connection only?

One other option i am looking at is the Monsgeek M1W or M3W but this is directly through monsgeek which works out to about 3k roughly. the plus though is that these are fully assembled with the M1W having the V3 Piano pro switches. I really like the aluminium case of the monsgeek KBs especially the fact that they can be taken apart by simply undoing . screws....does anyone have any experience on these?

I have had a look at Ctrl Shift Esc forthe Krytox and possibly some stabilisers.

You're on the right track.

The Keychrons are indeed bluetooth only so not ideal for competitive wireless gaming. I find BT fine for slower single player games and then just plug in the cable for anything competitive.

The M1W would be a winner if you don't mind shipping it. Ctrl Shift Esc has the M1 barebones wired version in stock for a little over 2K if you want a bit less hassle, but you're getting better value by shipping a fully assembled M1W

I would love a barebones kit but the cost to get it fully built up would be waaay over my budget...plus the flexibility of wireless is appealing....

The MW1 assembled and the M3W assembled seems to be the best bang for buck at the moment, that i can find and get shipped at least. There is also the M1 HE with the magnetic switches which is more but tbh im too new in the game to know anything about this.

I was looking at that Rainy 75 when it launched a few days ago but they dont ship to SA so thats a no go...

btw what is the difference between a FR4 plate and a POM plate as this is one of the optional add ons

FR-4 is quite a bit stiffer, it's made from the same material as PCBs.

POM is quite a soft plastic that's very flexy

Side note, do you know of any keyboards that use a dongle for low(er)-latency wireless gaming?

U mean like the 2.4ghz wireless...most of the international wireless keyboards have that, even the "cheaper" kbs (the result of many hours spent pouring over various sites and YouTube)

What about this perhaps?

I saw that post, but if it wasn't for the colour (looks kinda bluish/greenish) I would consider it....plus I would much rather have an aluminium body so that if I wanna take it apart I don't need to worry about clips breaking

Pretty sure it's an Alu body...

You will then already have a full Board and can upgrade from there. You can always change the color in the future.

You can look at the specs here

I’ve had my eye on the Redragon Elf Pro which seems to tick all of the boxes without breaking the bank: Takealot

And it even supports 5-pin switches which is a first for Redragon to my knowledge. If Januworry had been a bit kinder I would have pulled the trigger already

Well dang, that does look rather compelling. Gasket mounts and sound deadening and everything. Wonder what those stock switches are like though...

R1.3k at New World:

I have one of those @Chevez it's not too bad however the SHIFT left side keycap has already worn smooth within a week of testing.

Wireless is flawless on it and battery life is respectable

RGB is available but I tend to turn it off always

It's those greasy pinkies of yours!

I can't imagine those see through caps being super high quality though...

Is this place legit? I’m busy counting the last of my randelas now

I would definitely swap out the keycaps and experiment with some other switches.

@superrob how are the stock switches? They look to be some form of linears from the YT videos I can find?

Also RGB off. Always.

Yeah, there's one in Menlyn Mall close to me. Definitely legit.

Eina...Them be bad.

Damn, if I lived in your neck of the woods I would pick one up in store but definitely not brave enough to ship it.

That’s a lot of lone stars.

It shall remain on the wish list for now…

If you ask nicely I can help you ;)

I got mine with the assistance of @mjclaas if you are keen on one he can assist you but think it's a bit more then their pricing.

The switches are linear mostly silent, feel like silent reds from ages ago. It's not perfect but coming from Redragon they're definitely beginning to head in the right direction for peripherals.

Also all you mice nuts, keep your eyes open for the g49 mouse from Redragon, it's cheap but I do believe it'll be their first big boy contender with 4khz/wireless/49g

Much appreciated :)

But I need to be responsible and resist the CUD this time around. There’s still a whole lotta Januworry left to get through!

I may drop you a DM next month though if they still have stock. I promise to make it worth your while

Very much alu build and not green at all. It's charcoal with maybe a navy blueish tinge. It's a very solid build with good components.

You right I think it is an alu body, just the paint job that made me think it's plastic....

The M1W and M3W are also a fully assembled boards with full alu bodies with the wireless flexibility for the same price which is why I am leaning towards this

Does this price include shipping and import tax? Or do you have somewhere to buy them locally?
