Trying to find the balance between
- catalogue
- quality
- smart speaker support

I'm on Google Home, I think Spotify is better, but I also have YouTube Premium, because couch YouTube bingeing on xbox and no pihole

Deezer, was a carb recommendation so now I have a paid ad-free sub for it. I just could not take the ads anymore and trying to listen to a playlist on youtube is pointless (due to ads).

I mainly use Apple Music, because I am in the ecosystem. Good quality, horrible recommendations, massive selection. Their 'Essentials' playlists for artists is also decent.

When I sit down to actually listen, I use Deezer. Extremely high quality options, flac etc. Decent recommendations, does not work lekker for me on the go.

Spotify is amazing for recommendations. I can sit and listen for hours to recommended playlist on Spotify.

Tidal is amazing with history and 'more info' regarding albums, artists, songs etc. I read more than I listen on Tidal.

I won't be able to go without my Apple Music playlists and Deezer is keeping my listing chair alive. I am subscribed to Apple Music and Deezer's high fidelity option.

Youtube Music along with premium...
Coz I get it for free and saves me having to search for new music as it adds new stuff onto a continuous playlist...
Also never looked at others

Spotify Paid sub. No ads. Music and podcasts all in one place. Local and international stuff. Can resume listening on another device, Very nice playlist system, great music recommendations. Alexa support and a some cool features like group sessions.

Spotify really hits the nail on the head with recommendations.

Youtube Music is probably the best value for money package. Ad free youtube viewing and good playlists and recommendations.

Without a doubt. I have my 6 year old listening to all her garb on alexa and even with all the Jojo Siwa and Justin Bieber stuff she listens to, I still get a balanced amount of my own recommendations in the mix. Also if you make a playlist and you scroll down, it makes recommendations from what is in that specific playlist.

EDIT: Spotify must think I am a wacko for having to recommend Girly pop music with hints of brutal death metal and doef doef music.

YouTube music - it has lot's of "underground" music that's not easy to find elsewhere. Decent quality and Google ecosystem.

Edit: I've tried Apple Music, not a fan because their lossless/ spatial audio is a gimmick IMO, even with decent earphones.

This is pretty much my spotify account as well...

Spotify
  • Cheap. I'm on the student plan.
  • Largest library so less likely to be disappointed when a song isn't available, although there was a time when "Jenevieve - Baby Powder" wasn't available :(
  • Best recommendation algorithm. I use that recommendations at the bottom of a playlist a lot like Jurie_Els mentioned. Dope feature because I can get nice recommendations for my gospel playlists without interruptions from Mi Casa and Black Coffee, lol.
  • The android app is better than the other apps I've used. I can add/remove songs from my favourites and modify playlists in offline mode on both my phone and PC, and it will sync perfectly when I'm online again. The web player is a little glitchy with my adblockers.
  • Offline music has the least download glitches on my phone compared to Tidal and Deezer (which I have to re-download my library like once or twice a month).
  • I like Spotify's web apps. developer.spotify.com/community/showcase/web-apps
  • Joe Rogan.
I've only ever paid for Spotify and Tidal. I use YouTube Music Free. Deezer HiFi when there is a promo then I pause my Tidal subscription. I'm waiting for Spotify HiFi before I cancel my Tidal HiFi subscription but I can't even hear the difference between 320kbps and 1411kbps on my audio equipment to be honest. I have OCD though.

Youtube Music (Premium)
Tons of great music, can switch between just listening or the music video seamlessly and paying for premium, means no ads, ever.. Even when just falling into a youtube recommendation rabbit hole.

I use Youtube Music and Apple Music, I use Apple Music more since it has lossless Audio built in. Tidal has that but no family plan to benefit from purchasing it.

I am using Apple Music because Apple Ecosystem so day-to-day activities. (While driving as I connect to my car using BT, then Gym my Apple Watch makes it so much easier, then iTunes on my laptop because my work laptop blocks Spotify).

THEN Spotify Premium I make use on consoles because it does not contain Apple Music.

Youtube Music came free with my Youtube Premium sub but I am beginning to notice the benefit of it on my LG CX as the recommendations are quite more in line with Music Video preferences so most of the time I can just let it play without skipping tracks.

Spotify

cuz this is the only Music App I familiarize.

Tidal.
Great quality and I like the UI and Mixes they make based on my listening.
Also, I have friends in the music industry, and Tidal almost pays the most per stream to artists - thus they have my support. :)

Have also contemplated using Bandcamp to directly support them, but still need to get around making purchases to enjoy FLAC and so on.

Deezer

Great quality and selection of artists.
Fell in love with the UI and stuck with it ever since

Tried Spotify, just couldn't seem to like it.

Youtube Music as it comes with the Premium subscription.

Not having adverts during Youtube Videos (especially when the kids are watching).... priceless

I have had paid subscriptions of:
  • Google Music(or whatever it was called back in the day)
  • Apple Music
  • Spotify(current)

Spotify somehow knows better than me what I want to listen to these days... I haven't found any that comes close.

Spotify regularly and Soundcloud for niche stuff.

Just have too many playlists with Spotify to swap 😔

Youtube music has the best value = no youtube ads for general youtube viewing, custom community playlists, treasure trove of obscure things I enjoy like video game/movie OST's, algorithms for playlists on point, youtube movies/series.

What other service has this?

Google Play Music was the tits....sad that it's gone. Went to Youtube Music after, already had the premium sub. I hate adds and the family option is well priced.
