So...

I purchased an rx470 a while back off carbonite, had no issues, ran beautifully, until one day when the PC just wouldn't power on.

First I thought something must be loose or the 6pin power cable wasn't connected properly to the GPU but nothing I did made the PC power up.

If I disconnect the power cable and reconnect it the lights of the PC and fan would spin for but a split second before dying completely...

Finally I decided it must be the GPU and switched it for a spare I had handy (Chunky ass GTX 260)...

After installing the Nvidea card the PC immediately powered on... a drop of sweat swiftly left my forehead...

So here's my dilemma... When the 6pin is connected to the RX470 the PC literally cuts out BUT when I disconnect the power cable the RED indicator light and the
XFX logo shines on the card (which means insufficient power) and the PC powers up like normal but with no display (because the card isn't producing a signal).

Can anyone shed some light on what I can do here? Is the card shot? Is there anyway to fix this issue and if so what would cause this kind of strange anomaly.

Thanks in advance guys. (y)

Try a different 6 pin railing maybe ... else try gpu in another pc to confirm where the error is . 6 pin cable or gpu

I've tried changing the rails to no avail and the card behaves the same way in another PC... I've never come across something like this.

Yeah then it's def the gpu ... doubt it is under warranty :/ you might need to have a little fun and change capacitors out ...

@WiZard @Greekking ...thanks for the help guys, how would I identify which capacitor(s) have gone bust?
Are there normally tell tale signs? And how hard would it be to undertake said task? :geek:

Its a bummer man, you are going to go through some effort to try fix a card.

Buy capacitors or other parts (R10-R200), soldering iron (R300), solder (R100), pay for petrol (R100) and go through all the effort to try fix something you dont know will work

Rather save your time and spend that money you would spend to try fix it by grabbing another card.
