Good day guys i need help since im in a tough situation and i dont no what to do . My knowledge about computer parts isnt the best so here it goes . I currently have a I5 3470k cpu 8gig ddr 3 1600 mhz ram and a gt220(sadly my gtx460 fan stopped working few weeks ago) . Anyway my curreny motherboard does not support pci 3.0 nor usb 3.0 . So at this stage im not sure if i should get a new 1155 socket motherboard and a new gpu(looling at the gtx960). Or should maybe try and build a new setup instead . Any help will do thanks

What mobo model is it?? That cpu is more then powerful enough for games, I would recommend you pump the cash you would have used on new parts into a gfx card, gtx 970 or something?

Asus p8h67-M. Really small
Mother board and im running a sound card in the other pci slot . So graphics card needs to be quite thin if i can explain it like that . Dont really want to spend too much cash so prefer cheapest option with best outcomes [emoji16]

Im not sure but i think anything like a gtx 960 or
970 wouldnt fit . But like i said haha im a newbee and any suggestions would be much appreciated

I agree fully. That cpu will do fine and chances are your motherboard then supports PCI-E 2.0 (the difference between 2.0 and 3.0 is so negligible) and USB 3.0 won't have any affect on Witcher 3? (It's the speed of the USB port basically). Your RAM should be fine but you may just want to slap in another 8gb in the near future.
You're going to want (talking Witcher 3 now) either a Nvidia gtx 970 or a Radeon R9 290 (maaaybe R9 280x) at least.

I believe you just need a graphics card and potentially a power supply. What power supply do you have?

Are you using that small blue slot for a sound card?. Why don't you move the sound card to the black slot. It will work then you can have any GPU you want. The days of single slot GPU's are long gone.

That board will take a dual slot card no problem. Don't spend money on a socket 1155 board now. If you're aiming to play Witcher then rather follow @SBA's advice and put all your cash into a gpu. Don't worry about pcie 3.0; it makes no difference.

Okay sorry guys seems like i made a mistake i have 8gb 1333mhz ram since thats the only supported by the motherboard. And also the powersupply is a 600watt huntkey apfc600. Dono if im retarted or what lol but doesnt seem like the sound card can fit in the black slot

The sound card is a creative sound card vx 5.1

I have this same mobo and this is exactly how I do it. GPU (280x) takes top PCI-e slot (and covers the slot below it). The my Xonar soundcard is in the PCI slot at the bottom (there's like a 2mm gap between my GPU and my soundcard  ).

Your soundcard will definitely fit. I am living proof of this - see my post above. Only difference is my card is an Asus Xonar, but it's also PCI so there's no difference on your or my mobo. Plus the Xonar is a bit bigger than your soundcard (I think).

One more thing dude, why you want to upgrade mobo/cpu? Just put a 970 in and you are sorted! I'm running a sh**ier CPU than u but same ram and my rig runs fine. Spend your loot on a 970. Best thing u can do. Plus if u buy from RebelTech this week you'll get Witcher 3 free (not to mentioned Batman Arkham Knight). If you're strapped for loot, buy the Galax 970 EXOC. It's dirt cheap at R5k.

Thanks alot guys . Ill check tomorrow maybe im doing something wrong ... Anyway so my ram 2x4gb ddr 3 1333mhz should i upgrade or not ? And then the powersupply ? Think i might be going for the gtx 960.(the 970 is a bit expensive )

Nope your ram is fine for now. See my post above, maybe you can find enough loot for the Galax 970 EXOC. I'm not sure how kind Witcher 3 will be on a 960  Edit: plus if you are really strapped for loot, you can sell Batman here. There'll be plenty takers on Carb.

The 970 is a bit too expensive for me man haha . But ill definetly consider it . And the power supply? Is it okay

Ya 600w is more than enough to run an i5 with a 960/970. Especially if you're not OC'ing anything.

This is the sound card i have link: Creative of Creative Sound Blaster 5.1 VX, 5.1 Channel, 98dB, PCI-E... It uses pci-express 2.0 thats why i think it doesnt fit in the black slot? Correct me if im wrong please

Toxxyc338 [Sale] Asus Xonar D2/PM

Thanks for the mention dude, appreciate it!

OP: Forget about PCI-E 3.0 for now. That's not your concern. I'm running a 2600K in an Asus P8Z68-V motherboard with an Asus HD7970 DCII GPU. The nature of the motherboard/CPU combination doesn't allow me PCI-E 3.0 either.

Look at a post by raydummer, he's got a Radeon R9 270 Dual-X for sale. That specific card requires very little power, so you don't ever have to worry about that, but it can still run games very, very lekker. Sure you won't max out Witcher 3, but I'm pretty sure a 960 won't either. The R9 270 will match and outperform the 960 in some aspects with just a little OC, and those Dual-X card are awesome. I ran one for a while, and even with max load for a long time in a hot envirnment didn't see it's temps go over 60. Link to his sale is here: http://carbonite.co.za/f40/feed-cud-gigabyte-7770-oc-edition-sapphire-r9-270-dual-100687/

You can put your sound card in the bottom PCIe 16x slot to solve your space problem.
