WiFi switch for Geyser options?

It doesn't work with home assistant out the box, you can always switch out the ESP, and use tasmota on it, then it works flawlessly.

I'm going to get some of these CBI smart controllers.

Is the best place to get these online via Geewiz for R595?

Chamberlain selling for R479 each and I'd have to arrange my own courier to collect and deliver to CPT.

Anyone purchased from LITE-GLO before? Lite-glo selling for R551 with free delivery.

Looks like these CBI smart controllers can be used with the Smart Life app as well as the CBI app, both sound super interesting.
Also looks like this controller can be placed directly on the DB board!
=)

Any chance you know if this can be integrated into Home Assistant?
From what I've read online, these CBI units don't work with Home Assistant right out the box; you need to modify it to work.

If someone do find one that integrates seamlessly with Apple Homekit, please update as I am also hunting for one that will work with Apple Home.

Agreed, sadly my geysers seem to be the older/bigger ones; so I will need something that can handle more wattage.
If you are going the automation route why not look into replacing the older gen Geysers as you will end up saving money in the long run.

The only 'automation' I'm really wanting is to set certain hours of the day when the geyser can turn on/off and ability to turn it off if I'm away. Measuring usage is a bonus for me for our geysers.

Changing geysers (to smaller and/or more efficient ones) is likely going to cost me more than the smart switches for now; but not an altogether bad idea to ultimately save on energy costs.

Hell if its cheap and simple you want go to any AC/DC and get a timer + contactor and you could even get a large enough one to cover 2 Geysers for under the price you would pay for a smart switch.

Builders and Leroy Merlin sell them for cheaper. You’ll have to go check yourself as it’s not on their website

I know guys got them working in HA using the Tuya HA integration. A little clunky but it works.
I modified mine to allow Tasmota to be loaded on them (it’s not a simple process) in order to have proper HA integration.

One of the points about automation is essentially removing human error. :)
Yeah I agree with you there, but the current draw on that geyser would be subject to what is connected on that circuit. (I have had a fair share of homes I needed to re-wire because people took short-cuts)

In a normal (regulation) installation the Sonoff would cover a 3kw Geyser as the current draw would not exceed the rated capacity of the switch.

Wait... I thought code dictated the geyser has to be on its own dedicated circuit and breaker. Is that not the case? If not, I get your point. Yeah, that would definitely change the conversation.

Yes Code does dictate that the Geyser should be on its own dedicated circuit - but you will be surprised how many homes I have come across that have other stuff connected to the circuit at the Geyser "Junction" box.

Ok cool. As long as basic functionality is there (if it can be added in the Tuya app) then all good!

I'd be very wary of putting a random relay that claims a rating that just barely meets the spec inline with a high current consumer like a geyser. The current rating is very dependent on the plating of the contacts and if there is a PCB/wiring/connection blocks involved that gets hairy. Please if you want to go this route, get a contactor and a suitable box from a reputable supplier that is SABS approved (for insurance purposes) and then you can use any sonoff or similar device to control it.

(I would also mention getting a certified electrician to do any modifications to your house wiring, but I am assuming that everybody understands that requirement)

The box says 30A, but if you open it up, there is a 16A relay inside... (I have not actually bought one, but that's what I see from searching for the product code. 30A 250V relays are actually not that common, and usually are bigger and of the latching variety)
The CBI switches are also Tuya Switches , would be better off to go with them .

I'm still hoping for the CBI switches to go on sale somewhere; maybe for Black Friday?
Anyone seeing CBI switch deals online?

Like stated above this is the one, I've installed a couple times works well
This is the one,

It does multiple things

Controls like timer or Google/Alexa API
Also able to tell you what it currently consumes. Get this one
