Just get a smart tv through the likes of Teljoy.
Also you will be limited to Netflix SA which has a very limited selection of series/movies to choose from.

Netflix SA has gotten much better from launch. The library is impressive.

Also, why would I want to spend money on a new tv?

I use a Roku 3 which works great. I agree, the Netflix SA's catalogue has grown in leaps & bounds.

Just keep in mind most of these Android boxes are limited to 480P Netflix, so if you want HD or 4K Netflix you should buy a proper one.

It doesn't claim 4K Netflix, only that the device itself can output 4K resolution, it is limited to 480P Netflix.

If OP wants good quality Netflix he needs either a Roku, Apple TV, Shield TV or Xiaomi Mi Box.

The Mi Box can be bought at a store in the Bedford Centre, store is called Cyber Range, I've never personally bought from them but I have heard on multiple times the owner is really helpful and nice.

Why only 480P Netflix? Isn't it a matter of what setting you choose in the Netflix app?

No, Netflix are very picky, they have a list of supported devices, 99% of these Android boxes run some version of normal Android with a 10 foot GUI/launcher to make it look okay on a large screen.

The reason the Mi Box and Shield TV support 4K is they run Android TV, not some modified Android made for phones/tablets.

These Android boxes then fall under this category from the Netflix website:

"Android phones and tablets will support streaming in 480p or higher. See our "Netflix in HD" tab for more information."

"Netflix doesn’t dole out HD to just anyone. Vendors and service providers need the golden pass first before they can display any Netflix content at the higher resolutions. In other words, that device you have may not be serving up the HD goods, and it would seem it’s Android users who are getting the rawest deal."

Thank you. ...

I have a Chromecast 2nd gen (non-4k) that I'm selling. I have a post on mybroadband and the current price is R800 or a trade for 5.1/2.1 speakers if you're interested. Negotiable of course.

google firestick i think ian_stagib mentioned ?

Amazon firestick
Google Chromecast

Do you mind going on YouTube and checking both of them out and if you like the Chromecast PM me?

I think your price is a bit optimistic considering its not the latest version and the latest version is $59. Which including shipping and all that is likely to be around a grand, maybe 1.2 at the most and then it's new. Your version is $30

Noted.

Hi,

I have one of those "PC Stick" options. Takes a normal cell cable to power up and plugs in with HDMI. Full Windows 10 installed and works for all streaming sites. It has something like 30gb onboard but you can connect a usb stick if extra space is needed. I coupled this with one of those Microsoft media keyboards and haven't looked back.

It is a bit more than the android box but better in the long run for compatibility.
