I am one of the founding members of Rescue a Weim also known as Weimaraner Rehome and Rescue SA on facebook.
In aid of raising funds to home, sterilize, vaccinate, microchip and feed dogs that come through our rescues doors. We are offering micro-chipping and registration at the low price of R180 for the microchip, injection and registration service.
I have undertaken a special course to ensure that I am qualified to microchip dogs, cats and various other pets like horses, donkeys, cows etc

We chip primarily in the Southern Suburbs area. But we will also come to you in further areas like the Northern Suburbs etc for a transport fee. Areas close to us in the Southern Suburbs have no fee.
If you would like to microchip your pet please include the area you are in and I will let you know what the transport cost is to get there if there is one.
Areas below have no fee:
Plumstead
Retreat
Diep River
Constrantia
Muizenberg
Grassy Park
Ottery
And surrounds of above

If you would like to come around to confirm that your pets microchip is still functioning we have a scanner and will gladly scan your pet for free.
Microchips can stop functioning or leave the body over time if not done correctly or a sub par microchip was used that does not have an anti migration coating.
So it is a good idea to check the chip at least once a year.
We have also found that sometimes vets and the SPCA don't actually register the microchip number. So your pet might have a chip, but there is no information stored on the database for the chip.
Just today at our micro-chipping and fund raising event, we found 4 dogs that had chips but were never registered. There were some very unhappy owners that had spent 600-800 rand at vets to get them micro-chipped only to find out that their pets were never registered by those vets. So we happily registered them in a flash.

We can check if any chip has information. If we find that your chip has not been registered we can register it for you for free. It only takes about a minute.

Some additional information:
We have seen that some SPCA's charge a yearly fee for keeping dogs registered on the Virbac Backhome.
We don't know why this is as Virbac or backhome do not charge any such fee for keeping a pet registered on their database.
We feel the need to mention it as we get many owners calling us worried that their pet is going to get de-registered if they don't pay. This is not the case.
The only person that can do that is the primary contact registered on the account when they mark their pet as deceased.
