Greetings

I have a 750d case, and asrock z87 oc formula board.

What cooling would I require to run 3x 280x's graphic cards? Would air cooling suffice? As in multiple fans or would the GPU's require watercooling?

Basically planning on running litecoin mining on it.

Thanks in advance

(The alternative to this would be standalone miner of 2x 280, but initial capital outlay for that is R7k more...)

If you do manage to do this, I'd like to see it :p.

I have a feeling that the "higher" cards (aka slot 1 & 3 ) would overheat massively, as the hot air from the other cards get sucked in.
Can't really see it working tbh. Was hoping for input from people that have more experience, as I don't want to jump R15k into something, only to realise its not possible.

Corsair's cases SUCK for air cooling, they're really designed for water. The only card I can compare that I've had in more than one case is a GeForce GTX 580 SOC, which ran a full 11'c warmer when moved from my old NZXT Phantom to Corsair 800D. I've run three cards in my 800D, but it's just not viable, dropped down to two for a while but really had to have the fans screaming to keep temperatures in check and am now down to just one. My other cards are sitting in other machines.

There is quite a big difference between the 800d and the 750d in terms of air cooling. 750d has the front intake fans compared to the 800d which has one crappy one on the bottom.

In short, no.

You will need a bigger psu, and a TON of airflow, 280X's will generate a LOT of heat and noise to keep them within decent operating temperatures.

Thanks folks. Decided to go open frame. Will start with 2x 280 in carbide 300r then when my open frame is ready will go up to 4-6. Thanks for input, cheers

with my current setup of just two cards they heat up really quickly, I have gone open case and used 12V 1A fans to pump cool air between the cards and they now hover between 65 and 72.

I am doing something similar to this but modify it to take two psu's and brackets for fans to blow cold air past the cards., I am going to try and get 4 x 6990's or 2 x 7990's
