The Sun ‘investigation’ claims gaming is ‘as addictive as heroin’

To be honest there is no reason to give these kind of stupid articles any more advertising, but I feel the need to point out a few things. Firstly there is an unspoken rule for reading a UK papers. Is it a tabloid? If yes, ignore. If no, take it with a bucket of salt. It is pretty evident that the mainstream media is going to bash video games because they are the newest form of media currently out there. And least understood by most people, much like there used to be scares about people being addicted to television. We rarely see any of that anymore, because video games have taken its place as the fastest growing entertainment media, and that fact scares some people.

With made up “facts” like these who can argue their findings? Seriously anything can be addictive. Books, TV, Smart Phones, the key here is moderation. I would like to see a scientific test involving everyone at the Sun newspaper being given a month of addictive gaming or a month of heroin and see who comes off second best. Luckily the good people over at MCV posted a counter argument to this rubbish article, blowing it clear out of the water. And of course the fallout on Twitter between the Sun tech editor and MCV is absolutely hilarious, as the Sun’s tech editor tries his hardest to defend the rubbish they call investigative journalism.

Change the word "game" in that article to chocolate milk, beer, watching tv, sex, skydiving, writing BS articles, and nothing changes. Getting tired of the negative journalism surrounding gaming.

How is playing BF4/CoD any different than watching a new Bruce Willis movie?
