This morning i decided to tidy up the area below my desk and unplugged everything (had worked fine up till this point). After cleaning I plugged the Eurolux surge protector into my UPS and as soon as I plugged in the kettle plug for my PC there was a minor explosion/big spark and now my 5700xt seems to be dead. All the other things plugged in seem fine and it wasn't even close to being overloaded (only had a monitor and TV plugged in at that point).

Swapped out the GPU for a 1070 to see and the pc booted fine.

Plugged in the 5700xt again and now the fans just blow at 100% with no display. From what I could find online: I've reseated the cpu. Removed the RAM sticks and reseated them in every config possible on the motherboard, cleared the CMOS and tried another PSU and nothing has made any difference...
Even opened it up to check if there was anything obviously not right and it all looked good to me..

Does anyone have any other suggestions or is done for? :(

Sounds silly but give it a sniff. Does it smell burnt?

Did you see any of the magic smoke? Once it escapes electronics won't work.

Eish unlucky brother...

The one thing meant to save the GPU broke it

Yes I smelled around and the PSU and GPU both seemed okay.

Do you have a second PC you can try that GPU in?
I have my girlfriend's Dell system, but it only has a 300Watt PSU, could try using the 6+2 connectors on my one and test

Had been using a normal multiplug for the longest time without issues too and bought this a couple of months ago "to be responsible" 🙈

That should be fine to boot with, just don't try anything too wild like a game. All you want is an output on boot.

Tested my brother's system and the fans spin up to 100% too with no signal on the monitor from HDMI and Displayport :/

Took pictures of the board in case anyone can see something glaring that I can't:

It's so unlikely that the GPU would die and the PSU and motherboard would survive, hoping it's something small.

Do you think it'd be worth taking to a shop to repair or should I just sell as is and move on?

Looks dead to me. I can tell by the way that it is.

But if you've tested it in multiple PCs, chances are it's a goner. There's a dude who fixes GPUs and whatnot, I forget the name though but someone else might remember it.

Two names that have been mentioned recently are GPUWorx and PC Techies. Haven't use either of them myself though.

Also did some snooping on Carb for names, but I've decided to just eat the loss and sell it on as is.

Sad days

If you ever find yourself in Tokai and still have the card drop me a PM and I'll take a look at it in our workshop 😎
