Hi all
I currently have a DIR-655 wireless N setup at home. The issue is that in 2 rooms towards the end of the house signal is dodjy. I brought a Tenda cheap wireless range extender that just does not work.
I'm looking for something on the cheaper side that will work, range is not very big and I have a wired network point in the rooms with the bad signal. Any suggestions appreciated, been looking at a dir-655 but that's quite expensive or some of the Ubiquiti stuff from scoop but I cant figure out which one will work.

The DIR-655 is a Gbe router, why do you want to use another router as a range extender? The DAP-1360 will do you fine and can be had for under R500.

We have two of these and a D-Link router. I think you can run them in a bridge mode but I have run cables to the AP's so we can run them from a UPS over POE. So far I am yet to have a problem with them and the range/speeds are awesome.

Thanks, not really looking for another router just wasn't sure what would work. Infact my current DIR-655 is basically a dummy with my Billion ADSL router doing all the work.
The DAP-1360 option look great :)

This works very well and it plays nicely with other brands. Tested with D-Link:

Range as an access point is the best I've ever seen.

I got myself a 1360, it on its own gives a greater range than my Billion router. I'm playing with the idea of getting three more, one for each corner of the house, so that the entire property including the yard has coverage. They're also painless to set up, connect it to your PC, give your PC a static IP address, log in to the access point, select repeat mode, select your SSID, enter the wireless key and hit save. Much simpler than most others which need you to select its IP address, gateway, DNS server, etc, with a restart after each and every change. I'm looking at you, Airlive...

I suggest the D- Link as I've sold and configured literally 100s over the last year or two - three or four per week without fail.

Thanks again everyone :) , went with the 1360, much better than what I had. Haven't quite got my setup to work but should be able to once I get some time.

UBIQUITI UNIFI ENTERPRISE AP

I had also looked at it a while ago - and although i liked the amount of concurrent connections and stuff, this bit of the specs was a downer:
Network Interface: (1) 10/100 Mbps Ethernet port

(the UniFi Professional Dual Band AP is just a bit pricy)

so i went for Tenda's W301A 300Mbps Ceiling Mount AP, that had a 1 gb port. but i need to get a poe injector for it, and mount it inside the roof. it woks fine though atm.

i would stay away from the zyxel. i have one and although it was a bit of a pain to set up initially. once it was up and running it worked quite well for around 4 months.

But now its constantly dropping my connection, or i get large lag spikes during online gaming that i wasnt getting a few months ago with the same unit. So i googled the issue a bit and it turns out some others have had the same issue.

Its a difficult problem to demonstrate and i bought it from pc zone so im not in the mood to go through the hassle of getting a replacement unit.

Based on this thread i think i will also buy the D link and hope for the best.
