As a peace offering for taking so long for the update, here are the final images of the PC desk for Rebel Tech.

A huge shout out to them for providing me with the opportunity. It was so much fun! :D

An overview shot of the system:

So is this all we get to see for now? Not fair man!

Unfortunately for now, because I'm waiting on my guys to finish up with the panels. Once that's completed I will provide a more in depth update :D

Almost forgot about this thread.
Hahaha

Gotta love those tight clearances!

Next time scream if you need some help with modding.... Would love to get some modding done on the side, seeing as none of my friends or family buy enough hardware on a regular basis for me to mod :( nor do they feel the need for modding...

But I like what you did here though!

Happy Mod Monday to one and all!

Today we show off the design of the panels for Project Iris! As mentioned last week, this is the Mayan pattern that ASUS ROG is famous for.

Doubling as both ventilation and intimidating looks

Let's proceed to the close ups, shall we?

We start with the an outside shot:

Wondering how the corners look?

A shot from the inside...

Nice! Try some elbow grease and sandpaper! :p

All panels for this system are 3mm thick

So as the panels for Project Iris were plasma cut, this left the inner sides a bit rough and sharp.

Today is a post about the elbow grease required to clean the patterns up...

Enter the small files required to clean the intricate design :D

Starting to look much neater now.

Much elbow grease later, we are making a lot of progress with the panel cleanup process...

I was thinking to myself that, it is a cool design and great that you had it cut out. But the labor needed to get the edges rounded and cleaned of, was going to be a bi@tch. But good luck man, just shout if you need a hand or 2.

well, there is some joy in actually doing something yourself, as well :)

busy fooling around this side and causing kak and was battling to drill 8 holes through what now seems to be a form of hardened steel...

oh the joy when I simply switched drill bit and within 2 mins, as opposed to numerous different types of HS bits and about 30mins, I had my 2nd batch of 8 holes

was laughing all the way during drilling them :D

btw @SphinxMods, why did you go with plasma? cheapest?

I definitely agree, nothing better than seeing your own hard labor paying off. Sometimes I am looking at my pc and thinking to myself; if only I had a garage, for working space. haha

The plasma cutter was recommended due to the thickness of the aluminum, also with the intricate design, I was told normal laser cutting would just melt the material.

As with waterjet, it would take too long and cost too much.

In conclusion, plasma was the best solution with regards to time, thickness of material and overall cost :)

ok... VERY interesting to see that plasma beats laser on 3mm alu in terms of intricacy

3mm thick aluminum, it's a soft enough material to start with. Now the mayan pattern is a intricate pattern to work with, anything thinner would have been fine because it wouldn't have melted / damaged the material.

I went to a couple of professionals to get their input on the preferred method, and most said plasma was the best solution (With regards to time and cost).

Other companies would not even attempt the job I asked them for.

If you ask me, it worked out pretty damn well :)

Needless to say which screws will be used to mount the panels to the frame :D
