The earphones were removed but works out better in any case if you have a proper headset. The only real wear and tear is the faux leather foam on the forehead pad is peeling.
The #D effect is from the lense placement,so you cant turn it off per say but it looks like a cinema screen in front of you when you have the right adjustments set.
