Additional info : The cool part - the RNS-510, much like many of the other VW car radio units is often plug 'n play across various VWs and in fact SEAT Ibizas and Leons. Possible issues - you may need to order a new radio fascia / plastic surround from your dealer but that is about it. The slightly complicated part is that the RNS-510 units are slightly different depending on its' market. Lastly - it doesn't come with a GPS antenna so you'll need to get your own (you can find them on bidorbuy for between R200 and R300) or offer 30-60 mins of moral support and shooting the breeze while I partially disassemble my dashboard while you wait.
Now onto something a SLIGHTLY complicated in the interests of transparency : The two mainstream markets with RNS-510s are: 1) Europe / Australia / Russia / Africa and then 2) USA / Canada / Mexico. All the firmware updates / mods are aimed at the above two and since the hardware / firmware / software base is pretty common, modded software can be applied to units with part numbers associated with the above markets. Then you get the one sold with Chinese VWs and is identified by the part numbers for the RNS 510 ending in "682". In my case : 3CD 035 682 A: Production 05/2009: HW01 / SW0320. (Whereas Euro market ones (the one you want to look for) ends in "680".) It is not a huge trainsmash - it is just that my only language options are Chinese or English, RDS does not work due to SA and China having different standards and I can't update to slicker / faster firmware.
Anyway, if you're interested - hit me up and we can discuss it in a bit more detail.
EDITED TO ADD : The volume knob is a bit iffy. It is one of those knobs where when you rotate it the volume increases but then suddenly might drop and then you need to rotate it more to increase it more. It didn't really bother me too much cos I used steering wheel controls but it is an issue. I have dropped the price accordingly from R1000 to R800.
