Hey ALL.

So finished my M-ITX build last night, and thought I'd post some Pix and info.

First off I must thank WISH Networks in Stellenbosch for stocking all my requirements and toys for this build and for the small bits of my Cosmos 2 build too.

Second, Specs:
CASE: Cooler Master Elite 120 Advanced - M-ITX
CPU: Intel Pentium G620 2.6GHZ - Dual Core (Temporary CPU until a Core i3 is found)
CPU COOLER: Zalman CNPS8900 Extreme - Low Profile
MB: ZOTAC H67-ITX WiFi - M-ITX - LGA 1155 - 2 Sata 6G - 4 Sata 3G
RAM: 2x Corsair CML4GX3M1A1600C9 Vengeance LP 4GB DDR3-1600 1.5v CL9 - BLACK
SSD: Transcend SSD320 - SATA III 6Gb/s Interface - Capacity 64GB - 7mm Thickness
PSU: Baobab - Xtreme 600W
DVD Writer: SAMSUNG SH-S223F - 22X DVD-RW

Note:
System seems faster than I thought it would be, thought that the G620 was going to be super super slow.
But must say the SSD made a big diff to the whole feel of the little rig.

Here are some snipout pix. Yes FULL SIZE :p

That case is freaken awesome for the price. Now stick a HD7750 in there!

Well done! Awesome build.

Kinda wanna see what a 680 GTX Lightning would look like in there :D

But don't have the "krag" today to take it out my main COSMOS 2 rig to check co its in main rig very very very thightly packed in...

But will see. When I need a Card. I'll swap the cooler for a CM Vortex and likely try and get hold of a cheapy 5850 or 5870. :D

LOL... dude... this is basically exactly what my HTPC is going to be... same board, same case, only difference is i3 2120, not sure what RAM, and a CM Silent 420 M2 Modular PSU with a Gigabyte GT520 1GB.

Looks good though, nice build man... was wondering how much space there is for cabling, so this is a good indication.

Cheers man.

gonna be a beast :p

really wish they would make lower end full modular PSU's exactly for these kinds of situations.

sucks about that cooler as it also kinda fits with the orange on the board :)

Well seeing as you are a LOCAL STB student. Try and see if we organize a time in my schedule in the week. The you can pop by and come have a look at it.

Note the RAM was meant for ALOT at lowest cost i3 I bailed at buying a new one waiting for a cheap 2nd hand one not that i need it as its kragtig for now. This wasnt meant as a BEAST no budget limit. It was built budget budget budget. Yes 600w is over kill but. U shove a mobo i3. 8gb ram. Dvd drive. 2 SSDs and 3x3TB in there with a decent 400w drawing gpu then we talk again.. Also. With this mobo your VERY LIMITED. in terms of cooling cpu in this case. Like I said come drop by some tume and I'll explain it to you.

Cable space. none unless your happy with putting them under HDD which im not bothered about.

gonna be a beast :p

Well to be frank 520gts not really much of a bump of speed for a media pc thats built for media and not Gaming type things means that cooler fits for current use. Which supports dvi and a HDMi out which is 2 screens not sure about display port or if its active when other 2 is used or not. But its no issue for current use.

Case is SOLID its not crap aluminium. Its steel. Space is cramped. Yet 6990 and 680 would fit without issues as its got alot of gou length space...

I so have to post my main rig. Yet it can be seen in the CUD MOD section with pix and links

Thanks for the offer, but I'm not a student and I'm not from Stellies. :p

What will this rig be used for bud?

Sorry lol. Was under the impression your a student from STB. Lol

For now general Media Pc for bedroom. Lol. But will likely go to my GF eventually.. Seeing as my main rig has the living room sorted with Media and 2 screens that decently play media even while in game :D

So yeah. Currently bedroom media PC. Later either go to GF or will use it for the odd LAN or worst case would be selling it as a whole to someone local.

Awesome man.

I just picked up my stuff today, all that's missing is my PSU, but have an el-cheapo that I can use to set up and test so long. :) PSU will hopefully be here by Thursday/Friday.

Cheers man. :)

Loving the build so far...have u by any chance benchmarked that ssd.
recently bought one and im disgusted by the benchmark

YOH!!!

must give us a few temp readings during days when it is running.

my only concern with this type is the heat so would like to see that.

yeah definitely get modular PSU and sommer go custom length cables.
sitting with those damn annoying unused cables is just a pain.

looking nice and good seeing you managed with that Vortex.

what media programs you running on it?

Just out of curiosity, isn't the CPU fan and the PSU fan working against each other instead of having the air flow in the same direction?

Well can't say that its slow? I'm running 60GB Vertex 3 in the main rig and a 120GB Vertex 3 in the Laptop,
and really can't say that its ALOT slower... Does 470 write and 555 read... Think thats under what it should be but cant really feel it :/

what media programs you running on it?

Firstly temps. Currently not in HELL HOT Stellenbosch, but currently in Luderitz Namibia,

(Remember small case and 460GTX HAWK Clocked @ 900mhz day, 920mhz gaming...)

G840 temps averages
Idle temp 35-37 on flat dead browsing...
Media Play - 43-46
Gaming between 50-56...
Doing a Media convert sits at 58-61 no more...
Force flat-lining it with IBT 65-67...

GPU Idle 31-33 - Browsing
Media playing - 34-36
Gaming - 55-60 (Fan tweaked)
Burn in - 75 @ 920mhz (Voltage and Fan Maxed out) (CPU gets 45-50)

Second, thinking about it, every one of those cables are getting used,
from the 2x PCIE Pin to the 6 sata, to the molex connectors, think I might have 1 molex free of the entire case :p

3rd, Vortex doing its job well, have yet to start tinkering with the FAN settings in the bios for the CPU,
Could probably tweak the Duty Cycle up a bit :/

4th, Media Programs as in? Video Player? Encoder? (For the Camera Vids) :p

Video Player - Zoom Player (with Unified Remote for android)
Encoder - Between Freemake and Handbrake at the moment.

Mini box's usual days work is JUST the SSD in there with the FAT drives in the main rig,
and the just using plain simple WINDOWS Mapped Network Drives from Main rig to get to Access to Everything...

(XBMC to come)

Just out of curiosity, isn't the CPU fan and the PSU fan working against each other instead of having the air flow in the same direction?

Very Likely, yet there is nothing much I can do about that besides flipping the PSU upside down...

Yet that said its not like the CPU is idling at 70c or the FERMI GEN 1 GPU at 90c...

Current temp readings are
GPU - 32
CPU - 38 and 40

Nothing special in the background running...

But will await comment from Juggy, that might be adding higher flow fan the the front, eagerly waiting for him to finish his rig and comment on his findings :p

Whats QUITE interesting and a LITTLE FACT for those that want M-ITX cases
Is that this little CM Elite 120 can fit more 3.5" Drives than the BitFenix Prodigy if you add a GPU thats longer than 190mm (WHICH MOST ARE)
To point the fact out, is that the 460 GTX HAWK is 238mm long, and its not really a LONG GPU at all...
With that said, if I were to put this 460 HAWK in a BitFenix Prodigy I would have had to remove the upper Drive rack, giving me only 2x 3.5" bays for drives
Which is in turn a deal breaker because I have 6 Sata Ports to use and need a Minimum of 3x3.5" bays for my drives.
The SDD is Irrelavant, can be shoved in a anti-static bag and shoved between the drives if need be...

Note that the fact of a "MEDIA BOX" that 2x3.5" drives would mostly lead to craving for more,
yet that said, taking into account the Prodigy has 5x3.5" bays given that you do NOT add GPU longer than 190mm
With the onboard of most M-ITX 1155 mobo's streaming or playing any from of media GPU is not a necessity, making 5x3.5" bays and one for SSD

BitFenix Prodigy is for M-ITX water cooling, for people that won't be using more than 2x 3.5" drives :/

Also interesting is seeing alot of these new M-ITX Mobos with the CPU socket against the PCIE lane, resulting in failure with wide coolers..
Only 2 Mobos I can find thats NOT got this problem is:
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P8Z77-I DELUXE/WD

and EVGA's Stinger
EVGA | Products | EVGA Z77 Stinger (mITX) | 111-IB-E692-KR

Another,

Very few M-ITX that have more than 4 Sata ports.
Mine - Zotac H67-ITX-WIFI - 2x6G 4x3G
and the ASUS P8H67-I
ASUS - Motherboards- ASUS P8H67-I

These are AFAIK the only 2 M-ITX Mobos that have more than 4 Sata Ports...

Alot of babble, lol, If I was not going to add a GPU to the MIX, I'd have had that BitFenix Prodigy anyday, shoved in 5x3TB's and my 64GB SSD and there you go...
But turning a Media Box into a gaming PC that you can shove as much in the little case as I did - PERFECT.
Show me other case thats this small that can carry this much :p

I love these small builds, very nice. If you getting good temps you cares about pretty cables. For me its all about stuffing all ur spare parts in a small space with decent power and data space. Ill carry this around than a laptop. But will keep my Samsung note close just in case I dnt have a power socket:).

Do you think u can fit a closed loop pump between the psu and board. I know there will be no space for the rad, but that can be modded on the case, I just like to know if the pump/res/block of the closed loop systems will fit.

oooooooo K, I think it will fit some stuff , lol.
Is there a work log for this pic. Sorryfor crashing your thread OP

wierd...mine is terrible
teach me oh wise one
seq 181.73 seq w 55.23!!!

LOL!!

Think your SSD she is not doing well. Maybe try and put it on a 6G port instead of a 3G one? Maybe try disable the Page file? and do some SSD Tweaking?

LOLZ, yeah that's how you shove a 670 with full water-cooling into a Elite 120...
Leaves space for a 4TB in the 5.2" Bay and Could Probably shove 2x64GB SSD's for RAID
and if you like 2.5" Platter Drives you might be able to shove in 2 or 3 1TB 2.5" Drives in there somewhere too...

But unfortunately with that in mind only 1x 3.5" is possible...
Making maximum MEDIA BOX STORAGE I can use on my 6 Ports is
9TB:
1x4TB 3.5"
5x1TB 2.5"

With current setup: 15TB is
3x4TB 3.5"
3x1TB 2.5"

Which I'm running:
2x3TB 3.5"
1x2TB 3.5"
1x320GB 2.5"
1x64GB 2.5"

My End goal for my Media Box was to be able to shove in as much Storage Drives in the smallest Chassis
yet still be able to put in a Decent sized GPU thats not some special SHORT Specific GPU... That I could be able to Play average ammount of games...
And I can say this is the perfect little case :p

yet please tell us that G840 is going to go soon?

G840 has thus far been place holder for either i3 or i5... But we will see what the new year brings...
Haven't been toying ALOT with this G840, but runs COD:BO2 fine at the moment besides the 2meg crappy NAMIBIAN internet that its running on...

Only need for bigger CPU would be for encoding more... But we shall see... Minimum i3, maximum i5
