Hi guys, I am curious, I would like to upgrade my current gaming rig with something else. So I am curious as to what offers goes. However, this is an all or nothing deal so I will not be breaking up the components apart for MAYBE selling just the GPU:

Item: Gaming RIG
Age: various, continuously upgraded, some components only a few weeks old, others a couple of years.
Warranty: manufacturer's warranty will apply wherever possible, most components are still under warranty. I can however say that this system is rock solid without any issues.
Location: Cape Town
Reason: curious to see what I will get for it as I am looking for some upgrades.
Shipping: given the size of the case, suggest not
Collection: yes, preferred
Delivery within Cape Town area, yes we can arrange it.
Price: Offers, anything less than R50k will not be considered. (Just the CPU alone is R20k)

CPU: Xeon, Socket 2011, e5-2670
Link: ARK | Intel® Xeon® Processor E5-2670 (20M Cache, 2.60 GHz, 8.00 GT/s Intel® QPI)
Notes: 8/16 core CPU, rock solid, with 20MB of L3 cache. Able to play BF4 with the CPU utilisation staying under 30%

CPU Cooler: corsair H80i cooler
Link: Hydro Series
Notes: Able to keep the CPU well below 50 degrees even with prime 95 pushing all 16 cores to 100%.

Motherboard: Gigabyte, X79S-UP5
Link: AnandTech | Gigabyte X79S-UP5 WiFi Review: Ultra Durable 5 Meets the C606 Chipset
Notes: This is the server grade chipset, 602, not the normal consumer X79. It also has onboard SAS connectors etc. in case you need more hard drives.

RAID Controller: Adaptec 7805
Link: Adaptec - Adaptec RAID 7805
Notes: A proper, high end RAID controller capable of almost any RAID you can imagine.

SAS Expander: Intel 6 bay SAS expander
Link: ARK | 6-Drive Hot-Swap Expander Kit AXX6DRV3GEXP
Notes: Capable to expand to 6 drives using only 2 SAS ports.

OS Drives: OCZ Vertex3, 60GB drives, 6 of them
Link: OCZ Vertex 3 SATA III 2.5" SSD (EOL)
Notes: A single drive can do in excess of 500MB/s, 6 of them in RAID 0 using the dedicated Adaptec RAID controller reaches in excess of 2.5GB/s read / write

Games Drives: VelociRaptor, 150GB drives, 6 of them
Link: WD VelociRaptor
Notes: These are 10,000 RPM drives, currently setup in RAID 5 using the Adaptec 7805 RAID controller. The SAS expander can also take 15,000 RPM SAS drives if the 6 Raptors are too slow.

RAM: Corsair Dominator, 16GB
Link: Dominator® with DHX Pro Connector
Notes: Nothing special about the RAM, it runs rock solid. The motherboard can also take ECC registered RAM if you would like to upgrade this.

GPU: Asus GTX580, DirectCU ii
Link: Graphics Cards - ENGTX580 DCII/2DIS/1536MD5
Notes: This is a triple slot Graphics card and runs rock solid. It is also one of the slowest components in the computer currently. With 100% util on the card, the temps still stay below 60 degrees.

PSU: Corsair HX1000
Link: Professional Series
Notes: It is a Corsair Power supply, what more can I say? It is awesome!

Fan Controller: Zalman ZM-MFC1 plus
Link: ::: Zalman, leading the world of Quiet Computing Solutions :::
Notes: It got 6 lights, one light is dead, but it still powers (control) the fans' without any issues.

Fans: Coolermaster 120mm fans, 6 of them
Link: not sure, they are normal 120mm fans
Notes: Given the case design, these fans is able to keep everything cool. I should also add that there are no dust in the case given the case design.

DVD Rom: LG DVD re-writer, (I think)
Link: I have no idea, it is an el-cheapo
Notes: Its is a boring piece of technology.

Headset: Corsair Vengeance 2000
Link: Vengeance® 2000 Dolby 7.1 Wireless Gaming Headset
Notes: 7.1 surround sound, wireless.

Keyboard: Logitech G19

Mouse Pad: Large Roccat Taito
Link: Product Review: Roccat Taito Shiny Black Gaming Mousepad - Yahoo Voices - voices.yahoo.com
Notes: nice, comfortable, fast mouse pad. 5mm thick

Monitors: Samsung T260, 2 of them
Link: T260 - TECH SPECS | SUPPORT | SAMSUNG
Notes: 2 of these monitors next to each other occupy a fair amount of desk space especially with the case.

Case: Custom built solid Mahogany wooden case
Link: Skoups wooden PC case build | Skoups
Notes: the above link refers to the first computer I've build in it, since then the components have been upgraded. Please note I’ve designed this case to be used with any motherboard including things behemoths like the SR2.

Thanks for the comment, regarding what to upgrade:

1. The GPU, that is my next upgrade in any event.
2. The hard drives. I would like to replace the Raptors with SSD's but the SAS expander requires 3.5" drives. (can't seem to source the right brackets in SA to convert 2.5 to 3.5" bays which fits into expanders). My other option, is to remove the expander and build a little wooden case for something like mini-SSD's (1.8") as I could use a lot of them in the same space as the 6 Raptors.
3. The RAID controller, currently limited to the 8 ports (6 for the SSD, and 2 used in the expander for another 6 drives). If I remove the SAS Expander, then I'd like a bigger RAID controller, 24 port or 16 port.

But no, this is a nice PC.

I've thought about making a wooden box but how's the heat though?

This is my second wooden built, my last one is a much smaller "LAN-friendly" version from Walnut and in both cases, the heat is no problem whatsoever. However, I did spend a lot of time thinking about the optimal designs etc and you need to ensure that you have a positive air flow in the case.

What are prices if splitting? Would like to be in line for H80i and an SSD depending on price. . .

yah list some split or bundel prices then once you have buyers for most of the stuff you can sell

tell me about it... eagerly bought 2 Vantec 2.5>3.5 converters specially so that I can line them up nicely for in-line SATA power connector setup, only to find that they don't even come close to fitting in normal toolless 3.5" trays.

GLWS and that is actually quite a nice case with a neat setup

I am interested in an SSD if you split but you're from Cape Town and I'm in Durban :(

The name bestowed upon you shall be "King of the CUD" :D

The closest I've found is these here:
MB982IP-1S-1_2.5" to 3.5" SSD Converters_SSD UPGRADE KITS_ICY DOCK manufacturer Removable enclosure, Screwless hard drive enclosure, SAS SATA Mobile Rack, DVR Surveillance Recording, Video Audio Editing, SATA portable hard drive enclosure
but the problem is the people that stock them hardly have any stock which is super frustrating.

Will also vouch for Denis/Skouperd any day of the week! What a machine this is... Those pictures doesn't do the case any justice at all...Its like the Corsair 900D of wooden Chassis!

GLWS ou maat

Thanks Eggy / Jypels and in return for those kind words, I can confirm that the CUD runs strong in both of them... ;-)

Several people PM'ed me on this rig and asking me to split it up. The components that I am willing to split up has been mentioned to them in PM, but I think instead of me doing it in the whole rig post here, what I should rather do is just post the individual components (combo's) each in their separate threads. For instance, there are a lot of people looking for the H80i, but not really a component I would like to sell, I do however have an H70 which I may part with (previous rig).

So yeah, keep an eye out, the combo's / splits will be posted in their own threads in the next couple of weeks etc.

Regards
Skouperd / Denis
