Hello everyone,

I'm facing a unique challenge with my Google Pixel 6. The battery has unfortunately swollen (a 'spicy pillow', as some might say), and due to the rarity of Pixel devices in South Africa, finding a local repair shop seems unlikely. I'm contemplating a DIY approach by purchasing a replacement battery kit.

My first thought was to order from iFixit, but they don't offer shipping to South Africa. To overcome this, I'm considering using forwarding services like myUS or AGS to get the kit here. However, I'm uncertain about a few critical aspects:
  1. Shipping Restrictions: Do myUS or AGS permit the shipment of lithium-ion batteries? I'm aware that such batteries can have strict shipping regulations.
  2. Import Laws: What are South Africa's import regulations regarding lithium-ion batteries? I want to ensure that I don't run into legal issues or unexpected costs.
Has anyone here faced a similar situation or possesses knowledge about these shipping and import concerns? Your advice would be invaluable.

Also, if you have alternative suggestions that might be more efficient or cost-effective, I'm all ears. Maybe there's a better approach I haven't considered.

Thank you in advance for your help and insights!

myUS and AGS will not ship loose batteries for future reference. I've tried to ship a laptop battery with them before and they refused to ship the package on receipt. Only items with integrated batteries like a new phone etc is allowed

Did you manage to get your pixel 6 battery sorted? I'm in the same boat

Dropped the price to R1950

Have a look at shipping batteries from the UK to ZA. If possible, I could courier one to you when I get back to the UK at the end of March.

Pretty sure it won't be possible though and you're best option is to buy the kit that Myphone is selling. Might cost a little bit more but it's here.

Edit: shipping is roughly £60 and that's IF they will accept it. The kit is £45 so that's a minimum of £105 or ZAR2500 even before the ANC adds import duties.
