This is my first custom build/mod. The idea is to create a case for my new file server. It therefor needs to hold hard drives effectively, have good airflow, but also be aesthetically pleasing. The build is in my head and adapts as needed if something goes wrong so I don't have any plans to show you but hopefully as it comes together you'll get the picture.

The base of the case 400mm square.

The aluminium channels which will hold the hard drives and has space for 15 drives ultimately.

Hopefully hard drive rack will be done by the end of the weekend.

Can't seem to edit original post :/ Or maybe I'm just blind. Anyways sorry for shocking picture quality, digital camera died so until I get access to one photo pics will have to do.

General idea of how harddrive's are going to be held in possition.

I need some advise with regards to fans. I'm going to put them in the foreground of the side view picture so the area blows past all the drives and out the other side. I have about 20cm accross and as high as I want. My question is do I want more fans or bigger fans? So 3, 60mm or 2, 90mm on each side?

While we taking about fans and airflow. Should I get the grill of the fans laser cut directly into the side panels or rather cut out circles and attach messing?

Also who makes the best silent fans?

Thanks!

Bigger the better, more airflow at lower speeds is generally ultra quiet
