Scammed by same guy as others

Meh, I am not bothered by it that much. I'm sure the guy is just busy or whatever. He is will known on the site and well trusted member. :)

Shitty attitude, bro. Get your frigging iTrader. It takes bloodywell 10 seconds to do it, not getting it because he is "too busy" is a crap excuse. Sometimes we just have to be reminded as well. I've forgotten before, simply because I really did forget. Something gets delivered on a late Friday afternoon, buyer gives me the iTrader and I don't see my PC again for a day or two. Come the end of that time you simply forget, and a reminder helps me to do that 10-second job quickly.

PS: If he's such a well-trusted member, getting an iTrader from him is just so much better for you.

Yeah point taken. I will post a remember in the iTrader thread. I say he is will trusted on this forum as I am very good friends with Firestrm_ZA; and when I mentioned it to him, he told me that the seller I bought from he also buys stuff from him all the time so, thats why I say the seller is well known on here. :)

I also know that seller. Great guy, but even the best forget. I'm not shy to admit that I've forgotten iTraders several times before.

Why not just make sure you aren't being scammed? I would never buy from someone with less than 10 trades unless several reputable people would vouch for said person.

Ermmm.. Shakes had more than 10 iTraders from reputable members and still pulled off a R10k+ heist here.. just saying.

Why not make a system like sagamer? You have to have 50 posts or more to sell stuff. It's a drag for newbies, but hey, less scams I guess?

Not too much of a drag if you actually participate on the forum like I do.
Then again someone who has a spare table to sell would never accumulate that many posts in tech and gaming discussions.

having an itrader is not the same as someone vouching for you. When you vouch for someone you are saying .. I know this person personally and trust him enough to stake my own name on it (at least that's my understanding in this context)

Just because I did a deal with someone and gave him an itrader would not make me vouch for him.

Can these voice notes be made public? I'm sure it would help a great deal if future potential victims could recognize the voice.

Also, how about blocking users with zero i-trader from accessing the bad deals section?

EDIT: Maybe not blocking access to the section, still allow the zero itraders to create a thread if scammed, but blocked from reading other threads. Pretty sure if scammers can't see threads about themselves, it would hinder their ability to remain a step ahead.

Ill upload the ones that poplap has sent me.

Is that someone me? I have a spare table. Why you singling me out like that? #cry :/

When I vouch for someone I'm not staking my name. All I'm saying is that I heave dealt with the person and can attest to a positive experience. The Oxford dictionary states it as:

Assert or confirm as a result of one's own experience the truth or accuracy of (something):

Which is the same as iTrader surely? If they had a good experience you get a +1, if you a d**s, you get a -1... Simple

If you vouch for someone on carb and that person scams someone etc you also get banned, thats what I was told by a mod. I dont see how a vouch is anything like a itrader.

Almost the same, a vouch can also extend a bit further than just an iTrader, I would say.

A bit, yeah. It has happened in the past, but I remember that case, and it was simply because the guy who did the vouching was a dick about it.

If I, for instance, deal with newbie A and he asks me to vouch for him in a sale I'll probably do so (but say that it was only one deal that went good). I have done this before a time or two as well. If newbie A then scams, I won't be banned, because I'm not going to tell a mod that the forum is cray-cray or full of idiots when newbie A scams.

Perhaps, but you do not get iTrader points for everything. According to my iTrader I have done 1 deal, but I have done 4 and am in the middle of my 5th (which as far as I know again will not permit iTrade being given).
And the only way I can prove myself to be more reliable than someone with a single deal under their belt is to get the other people I have successfully given money to to vouch for that fact.

I liked this post, and I am a noobie, food for thought right there I guess.

Actually avforums.co.za upped that to 100 postcount.
I would do that. Mods can easily spot postcount spanners.

There was a thread on vouching sometime back.

http://carbonite.co.za/showthread.php?t=105297

I personally feel that a vouch should imply liability.

If you vouch for someone, it means that person is trustworthy. So trustworthy that I am staking my name/wallet on that person being trustworthy; and if for some reason things go south, the aggrieved party can then take the issue with the Voucher for things to be resolved, be it behind the scenes trying to sort the problem out, or in the worst case, by resolving it by dipping into their own pockets.

My 2c...

Say you where a scammer or buddy of a scammer, with 6 positive itrader and 36 post would vouch for another scammer where would that leave me after the deal gone bad?
One could quickly build up an itrader with little post and still scam people or vouch for other accounts that are also yours.

I wouldn't go with that system.

Those forums keep to a creed that their market places are a priviledge, a luxury, just an add-on. Forum first marketplace second.

Imposing that on Carbonite would contradict this site, isn't it technically a marketplace first that just has some off-topic discussions?

Even the header is "Carbonite Classifieds"

I mean don't people come to classifieds so that don't have to make small talk with the community they just wanna sell/buy stuff and be done with it?

The only way there will be less scamming is if members grow some common sense, trusting people with low iTrading accounts with your money first is like giving your wallet to a stranger to hold while you go to the public bathroom, chances are you are going to be crooked, don't do it.

The issue is, Scammers pm the guys posting wanted adds. So the post count thing would be null and void. If there was a warning above PM messages stating to be vigilant and so forth it would be best..

Well, I didn't think I would have to state the obvious. You only accept the vouch if the person vouching is reputable. I wouldn't accept a 6 iTrader 36 post user to vouch for someone.

I would however accept a 187 iTrader 5981 post count from the Official Forum Grump :)

This logic is the same as do not send money to someone with 0 itrader before receiving the goods. People fail to see the obvious unfortunately.

Before carbonite, Prophecy forums was more about community, carbonite later split of as a classifieds section. It worked well for a long time, until scammers caught on, even iTrader worked nicely. People saw it as a safer place to flog their PC goods. A better safer gumtree to say so. With its popularity also the scammers increased. Most of my deals are with people I know for years from this forum, when I see them, its not just about getting the deal, its also a quick catching up with them. I would deal with an occasional newbie, but then face to face on my terms. I cant say I am here anymore just to flog my stuff. I think that phase has passed. I hardly get any new itrader these days or sell much any more.
