So my current S7 edge is on its way out and i may possibly be getting the opportunity to upgrade.

Anyone have any good / bad experiences with the above phone ?

I'm leaning more toward the s9+ as that would save me some bucks.

Battery life is one of the key factors for me in a phone.

Any thoughts would be appreciated.

P.s I was actually pretty keen on the current mate 20 pro promo with the free watch GT, but was wasn't too happy about the lack of features on the watch.

Dude...Note 9!!! Once you get used to a stylus...man..it's brilliant! Imho [emoji4]
And the samsung camera's...yes the huawei has n higher mp camera but believe me...that doesn't mean much in the greater scheme of things! There is no other phone camera that comes close to samsungs f-stop or aperature!

Anyway...GL with your decision!

I'm enjoying the mate 20 pro. Battery life is very good. Emui is not the best but I just use nova launcher. Screen quality is very good. Overall device speed is very good as well.
Camera comparison I suppose could be subjective, for quick snaps for like social media and stuff it does a great job. I'm no pro photographer so I haven't delved into the finer details of picture quality analysis.

Fun fact, I got this phone by "mistake". Sent in a different huawei for repairs, they sent me a brand new mate 20 pro back :D

I had the S9 Plus before upgrading to the S10 and had no issues with it at all

  • Never lagged
  • Battery life was good
  • Camera in my opinion was excellent as well with the dual aperture
  • Build quality is premium
If you looking at buying new, then Mate 20 Pro should save you a few bucks compared to a new Samsung

With that said, i'm selling my S9 Plus if interested

Awesome. My one thing about the s9 though is it is a bit flimsy I guess ( well from my experience)

Haha and I have been watching yours very closely . [emoji1787][emoji57]

I am looking to buy second hand

Mate 20 pro, hands down.
If you dont like EMUI use a launcher,
Camera is best in class, processor is best in class, latest android version, HDR10+, 40watt fast charger, 3d face unlock, in display finger sensor,
reverse wireless charging, etc etc etc

Camera:
DXO mark its still number one DxOMark - The Reference for Image Quality

I was a big backer on Samsung, have had a Note 8, Note 5, S9, S8, S7, S6 (some iphones littered in for good measure)
but after having a p20 pro, i went for mate 20 pro,
and cannot see myself going back.

Charge Test:

Drain test:

Yeah Mate 20 Pro (but I might be biased). If you hold off until the end of March, you could get the P30 Pro, which will have some kind of super zoom camera with the same of everything as the Mate 20 Pro. That might also see a drop in the Mate 20 Price.

Side question, how is the pill cut out on the new Samsung devices not bothering people? It's not symmetric. All notifications are pushed to the left. It's being purposefully hidden with wallpapers. It would annoy the hell out of me.

Absolutely agree, if you were buying right now and wanted to buy new,
i would wait for the p30 pro / mate 30 pro

If you are buying secondhand, mate 20 pro

Only thing I miss is the dac, other than that every single aspect is better. The size was a pleasant surprise, the screen is big yes but it doesn't feel like a big phone and its very easy to handle. From just a performance perspective the mate 20 pro should hang up there with most flagships for a long while.

Mate 30 Pro, should only be dropping closer to the end of the year, September/October side. That will most probably debut their Kirin 990 chip.

Second hand Mate 20/P20 Pro should still carry the 2 year warranty from Huawei which is nice.

My S9+ updated to Android Pie and since then Wifi has been a issue it just don't stay connected I have to forget the network and re-insert the password then it works again.

Just something I picked up after the update.

Furthermore the phone is fast no issues.
Battery life is okay I'm sure there are phones with better battery life.

Take it to a samsung repair centre and let them rewrite the new software for you...that is just something that went wrong with the update i suspect!
