I upgraded from a 4670k to the ryzen 3600.

I'm running a similar setup to you with a x470-f, 2x8gb 3200 (Samsung b-die) with fclk set to 1600 with a gtx 1070 also running on an Ultrawide 1080p display and for me the difference was night and day.

Battlefield 5 which is a cpu intensive game, i saw a massive improvement where micro stutters disappeared completely and everything felt smoother. I saw an increase in frames as well although not a huge increase but an increase none the less because my i5 was the bottleneck. This is on stock gpu settings.

I then overclocked my cpu to 4.2 all core and there performance is really great.

Cinebench R20

Stock
3389 multi-thread
475 single thread

4.2ghz OC
3719 multi-thread
486 single thread

I have gow5 so if you want i can test and see what frames I'm getting. What frame rate are you hitting at the moment in that game?

Let me run the test again and post the results, that Samsung b die memory is decent

your cinebench score is interesting that it went up by that much. I didnt try overclocking yet still learning the ropes from intel

Steve from Gamers Nexus did a roundup of the 4690 and 4790 CPUs versus modern chips to see if they were still competitive in today’s market.

The i5 gets destroyed with the i7 hanging in there.

AMD has seriously hardware that you do need make sure is running the latest software/firmware.

Once it’s all patched, you should see a massive gulf between the 4790 and AMD 3600.

Their video was the final reason I upgraded.
There is a big difference I am missing something or have a defective setup

Watch this video (from +-1:25) to see why I will not likely change from Intel/Nvidia.

This is how it has been in the past and this is likely how it will remain. Intel + nvidia is just better. There I said it.

Used to use afterburner extensively, causes major stutter on my 4790K due to the polling.

But I was going to try this when I get home, but from leaving Hwinfo in the background can see the CPU boosting to 4.1ghz when I test games.
Trust me the 4790k is nothing compared to the r5 3600. that cpu is on 8700k level .... Its a great cpu. I think one of the best for this generation

Unless you're cherry picking with Amd games, the 9900k/9700k is still the undisputed king in gaming. Especially with cores synced at 5ghz+.
ummmmm the only cpu worth getting on the intel platform is the 9900k otherwise go amd. The difference is so small espsecially if you manually tighten the timings on ryzen. Intel does not benefit much .Check out hardware unboxed video on that. He tested the 3900x versus 9900k with tuned timings. The 9900k was overclocked to 5ghz and 3900x to 4.3ghz and with tuned timings the gape between those two cpus was around 3 percent

Actually no. Depends on the segment you are looking at. Intel and nvidia is not the best. look at hardware unboxed and check the differences between amd and intel. Then look at how amd is smoking the mid range market with the 5700xt. nvidia had to get the 2070super out to deal with the 5700xt same as when they had to release the 1070ti to deal with the vega 56 which was destroying the gtx 1070

brah trust me. once u start tuning the ram timings to even tighter timings you will thank me. You have an excellent chip bro. Manually tighten those ram timings. It takes some time but it is definitly worth it

buddy, i do not care for MAX FPS and AVG FPS that have massive variences. I care for the minimum STABLE FPS with the least of amout of variences. Anyways, you enjoy your stutter fest AMD gaming and I will enjoy my intel/nvidia gsync smoothness.

Hi bud, what i can say having a 3600x in my sons setup it is a beast, i ran corsair dom plat at 3200mhz with RTX 2080 1080p and it is same performance (Give or take the 1-5fps difference) to my i7 8700k when i had same GPU in my own machine. I do have x570 Asrock Taichi board. I am sure something somewhere is not right. Did you install the drivers for Chipset from AMD site, as well as AMD master? @ash515

Cool. Yeah i was surprised by the multitgread increase after the overclock as well. I installed the chipset drivers directly from amd's website and my bios version is 5202 if I'm not mistaken. I'm running Windows 10 1903 as well. I did not install the latest bios from asus which they released end of November. My system is stable and I'm happy so i left it as is.

My memory is the Corsair vengeance pro rgb.

Its a shame we have to use reviewers to inform our decisions, when in my experience they have made such ridiculous/far fetched claims. But else do we have to go on?

I saw you selling that rig earlier the month... Wanted to post to reconsider. Few setups can give the 4790k a genuine run for its money.

Here's an example of the 'gospel', believe it or not?

How I set up my 3600, getting 3700+- on cinebench

Memory 3200
FCLK 1600
CPU core ratio 42
Precision boost overdrive enabled
Dram timing to whatever yours says on the box, yours from the top should be 16-18-18-18-38 (asus bios has an extra one in the middle)
CPU vtage 1.25 (offset +0.15)
SOC vtage 1.025 (offset - 0.075)
RAM vtage 1.35

Give that a go with everything else at default/auto. Probably easier to reset the bios to default. You'll need a decent cooler for the cpu OC, stock cooler may get a bit toasty.

If it's crashing dial back the cpu multiplier, if it's too hot dial back the cou voltage.

Once stable you can fiddle more with the ram timings, I never got anything but the factory cert running on my shitty gskill so can't comment on any boosts there.

Furmark CPU burner:

Tried these settings crashed, tweaked them got it running.

Cant dont do the voltage you mentioned cant set the voltage and offset together it's either or

Yes just set the offset. Although there's no guarantee my exact setting will work, what did you get running?

Look I stuck to reviewers like Gamers Nexus to base decisions off not random youtube videos because those always seem fishy.

My 4790K served me well, however I wanted to a upgrade that bundle was 4 years old.

Also frametimes on the 4790k were horrendous, I tried ever fix on the net.

Changed to this and this is current:

Memory 3200
FCLK 1600
CPU core ratio 42
Precision boost overdrive enabled
Dram timing 16-19-19-19-38

Either the voltage crashed or timings, I suspect timings.
From setting the CPU to 42 and doing timings, I gained 27 fps on max and 2 on average. Still quite a bit behind the 4790K

going to keep tweaking!

CPU vtage 1.25 (offset +0.15)
SOC vtage 1.025 (offset - 0.075)
RAM vtage 1.35

Voltage won't crash at that, would've been the timings.
