Good day all.

I'm moving my gaming room to the other side of the house, it is a big house and me being a student budget isn't much or anything at all I get about 2 bars wifi on that side of the house, but would like physical cables.

Now there is a rj11 cable(phone cable) going to that side of the house, from my old gaming room. is there a way I can get decent speeds by just like connecting a rj45 plug to the rj11 cable and using it as a normal cat cable? not lookinf for gigabit speeds as I only have a 4mb wisp line. Just want decent internet speeds for gaming and streaming.

Thanks in advance

dunno if it will work, will never know if u didnt try it..
i ran an adsl modem on a cat5e cable with rj11 ends, it wokred..so try...

it will work or it wont..or just speed will be crap slow..

It depends as RJ11 is generally 1 pair UTP whereas RJ45 is 4 pair UTP (8 strands).

If your RJ11 is a 4core UTP cable you can do 100Mb Ethernet with no PoE. You could get a powerline kit on loot for maybe R600 if that doesn't work. Just Google a wiring diagram for 4 core Ethernet.

I don't think RJ11 is a twisted pair cable, which means you will get a lot of interference. If you do RJ45 on both ends, give it a try...it is only a 4-wire cable at the end of the day. Put your 2 pairs together and you should be able to get a 100Mbps full duplex....if your cable can support it and not pick up too much noise.

Go for it, give us feedback. Would be mighty interesting

Thanks for all the replies guys gonna give it a go tomorrow just gonna see if my rj11 cable 2 pair or 4 pair then gonna give it a go

I tried this once and only got 10mb (not 100mbps) speeds and there was a lot of interference. I'd avoid it if you can.

Yeah it's not going to work as nice as you want it to. Be best bet would be to get a proper Cat5E cable or better.
