Introduction
Hello and welcome to the return of South Africa's Overclocking League. The idea of this friendly competition is build each other's overclocking and benchmarking skills while, most importantly, having fun. The rules have been designed in such a way as to remove most variables from the game to give anyone with a modern machine a fair, fighting chance. Everything you need to get started is in this post. Please be sure to read through this post so that you have a full understanding of the competition.

Rules
  1. Maximum clock speed is 5,000 MHz; you can go up to 6 MHz higher than this but no more. This is to allow for combinations that will land you just above 5,000 MHz, such as 104.2 MHz BCLK with a 48x clock multiplier for 5,001.6 MHz. The absolute hard cutoff speed is 5,006.00 MHz.
  2. Core i7 users are to disable HyperThreading in order to level the playing field with Core i5 users.1
  3. Any single GPU graphics card can be used. Multi-GPU solutions including cards such as the Radeon 6990 are not allowed.
  4. Should you be using an NVIDIA graphics card, be sure to configure PhysX to be handled by the CPU, NOT the graphics card.
  5. Any cooling may be employed on any system component.
  6. Screenshots to follow the standard HWBOT guidelines. In short, all screenshots must have the following visible:
    • Final score
    • CPU-Z open on the CPU tab
    • CPU-Z open on the memory tab
    • CPU-Z open on the motherboard tab (optional)
    • 3D benchmarks must also have GPU-Z open
  7. Rounds will start on the 1st day of a month and run through until the last day of the following month. As an example, should a round start on the 1st May, it will run through until the 30th June.
  8. Late entries will be entered into the next round.

Example BCLK limits at various multipliers
  • 46x - 108.8 MHz (results in 5,004.8 MHz CPU speed)
  • 47x - 106.5 MHz (results in 5,005.5 MHz CPU speed)
  • 48x - 104.2 MHz (results in 5,001.6 MHz CPU speed)
  • 49x - 102.1 MHz (results in 5,002.9 MHz CPU speed)
  • 50x - 100.1 MHz (results in 5,005.0 MHz CPU speed)
There will be no need to go above a 50x multiplier. A realistic starting point for most would be 48 x 104.2 MHz - don't be disappointed if you can't get your BCLK high enough for a 47x multiplier.

Submissions
As the forums resize images to a very low resolution, please host your screenshots on one of the many free image hosting sites around the net. Please do NOT use ImageShack, as people who do not have an account will not be able to see your images. Submissions should be followed by your name, a dash, the benchmark name, another dash and your score. Use "." (period) as your decimal separator and "," (comma) as your 1000s separator. Examples are as follows:
Oj0 - SuperPi 8M - 1m24.677s
Oj0 - 3DMark03 - 116,253

Discussion
Please keep all score discussion in [hyperlink to discussion thread] and use this thread only for submitting results. Any discussion in this thread will be moved to the discussion thread, but you'll make our lives easier by posting in the correct thread. ANY SCORE DISPUTES ARE TO BE SENT MY WAY VIA PM. Publicly calling out a score may result in your points being penalized or your removal from the current round.

Scoring
The scoring system will work as follows:
  1. 10 points
  2. 8 points
  3. 7 points
  4. 6 points
  5. 5 points
  6. 5 points
  7. 4 points
  8. 3 points
  9. 2 points
  10. 1 point
This system may be revised at a later date depending on the number of entrants.

Prizes
While the idea of this is friendly competition, Firestrm_ZA is sponsoring an ASUS GX900 mouse for first prize of round one. Prizes may or may not happen again in the future, don't make winning a prize your goal. The idea here is to learn how to get the absolute best out of your system while constantly being pushed by your "peer pressure" over here.

As I said, Neo and Andrew please feel free to throw suggestions my way. If there's something you don't like here or just want changed, just holler at me :D

looks really good Oj

like i said in the sms this afternoon Below Zer0 will put 2 ALu dice pots up as prizes. we have just redesigned the Alu range and i will post up some pics after i get them done.

The main issue i always battle with when running a comp is participation and to try and encourage some activity I would like to suggest a "fun" of hit the target type challenge that can interest the gamers to get involved.
I have a few shirts and other randoms we could use as the reward and it could work on the first to hit the target wins and a new target is set until there are no more goodies left.

also if there is good participation i could probably get some support from a manufacturer or two.
this works as a great warm up for the seeding program i mentioned earlier and if we can get the numbers this year we should have a couple of nice local comps.

one other note, BelowZer0 is holding a demonstration at the march liberty lan (4 way 580 lightnings + 7950 Xfire) if you have any contacts with some graphical skill to design a flyer or poster with some info on about the ocl we can hand them out or display them.

the rules are solid but is the duration not a little long?

really nice job and I am looking forward to see if anyone other than me will freeze the VGA :D

Yeah two months might be a bit long, I did it because of the slow trickle of entries into the 7970 challenge - wait, what entries? :D Perhaps this not being quite so elite (open to more than just 7970 owners) and a prize or two might kick things off smoother for OCL5K. Perhaps I should make it monthly instead of every two months.

Much appreciated WRT the pots :D

And after what I've seen I think you can take it on air. Without a fan. Or heatsink :p

Target scores could be fun, spot prizes might go towards that? Something like 100,000 3dm03, 28,000 Vantage, 6,500 11, 333,333 am3, 1m30.333 8m and what for Maxxmem? Then the person who gets the most scores closest to each target wins the spot prize?

Prizes can be restructured to pot for the fun comp, pot for first place, mouse for random winner?

I was thinking even more radical than that,

eg: week one Kombuster Target X324
joe hits it on the first day and wins

day 3 or some random announced time when interest is lacking the next one maybe Heaven dx9 with a target 4324
bob gets it and wins and so on it continues until there are no goodies left.

something reachable with a 460 as well as a 7970. we have to try and get the gamers involved and when the structure is to complex they run away like little girls.

I will go through my lucky draw bin tomorrow and see how much of what is still in there and make a call from there but if memory serves me correctly after the last liberty i need to restock it again :(

looking forward to the OCL and will get all the active BZ guys involved.

I also want to run a challenge sometime in the next couple of months to increase our HWbot numbers. something like the person to increase their personal boints the most wins a motherboard or a cpu.
if we can get 10 guys to move their totals into the 200's we can make some nice moves up in the rankings so if you have any ideas there it would be awesome.

I like your thinking, please let me know what you have to give away and I'll structure it accordingly. It's great to see a few more people posting scores :D

ok I have some ASUS T-Shirts to use for the OCL. I will also cover snail mail to who ever wins them if they are not in JHB.
1x Gold 1x Silver and 2 x Red

I will find some more goodies when I start packing for the demo this weekend
