I asked for a Speedtest result, what's so hard about that? Ignorant is believing an implausible claim without any proof whatsoever. Why should I inconvenience myself going to his house? The burden of proof lies upon the person making the claim, I'm not the one that has to put in effort to prove your friend right.

removed the question . And guys lets drop this now please i know nobody is gonna go check there is a reason i asked about this because it did not make sense to me as well but he gets that speeds F@ck know how it works but yeah.so sorry for asking

Good luck. With some people here, even if I know I am right I just stop replying. :)

So if someone claims his car does 2500 km/h, you will just accept that on face value (since the person claiming it "knows he is right")?

Same here, nobody is not going to waste time checking a claim which is completely impossible.

hey guys back to the original thread..DO you guys know about a good seedbox i can use because its like telkom throttles me and i have not even come close to the FUT policy

Asking for advice on seedboxes to torrent? You realise that's against Carbonite's rules as it insinuates piracy.

Also what the hell is a FUT policy?

Like I said in post 355 and 357, if a person is willing to provide proof and you reject the offer it makes the person offering proof the right one until proven otherwise. But again, just how I see it. I am again not saying he is right or wrong. :)

You know there are a lot of opensource projects and distros that use torrent services to distribute their work?

Rofl remember when you were at school there was this one guy who's uncle or friend or whatever always had the most ridiculous shit? I remember a guy named Theo, this boy's uncle had a pentium 5 (I was 9 years old) good lord there still hasn't been a Pentium 5 till this day. This thread brought back some good memories :)

I'm waiting for the proof. We're all waiting for the proof. I'm not going to some random person's house to look at their uTorrent window as shown on the previous page, that inconveniences me and proves nothing. Posting a Speedtest result will take 1 % of the time, 1 % of the effort and not cost a thing, so I don't know why it's being avoided so badly.

He also probably thought selling ES CPUs here was illegal and that Mbit = MByte, right? Yip, lots of those people around xD

Yes because he is going to download distro's etc over torrent, which he can easily get over HTTP from local mirrors, or simply schedule the downloads between 12-6AM to fall outside of the shaping period.

Then there's also a 50gb fair usage limit for the P2P/NZB's usage. Who downloads 50gb worth of "opensource" projects and distro's a month? You?

Please don't try and play dumb here by defending an OBVIOUS comment that was against the rules of Carbonite, with a "possible" legitimate scneario.

Also who the hell will get a Seedbox to just circumvent a bit of shaping on opensource projects and distro's, at an additional cost, when it can done without any costs in your current package?

I do not believe you are stupid, rather don't post anything that might lead me to believe otherwise :)

Well I currently do have a service overseas that does my cron jobs for me and other tasks. And yes sometimes I do go up to 40GB in opensource content alone that this service also downloads for me and I HTTP it back to me.

So you just proved your own argument invalid, as you "http" it back to yourself.

Stop arguing for the sake of arguing.

You have a right to an opinion, I have a right to tell you how fucking stupid it is.

Do anyone here uses those apps that converts P2P traffic (Torrents,NZB's etc) to HTTP/FTP traffic ? how well do they work?

Read my comment above, does not fall within the confines of the Carbonite rules, I suggest you stop now.

What ever makes you feel better. But yes before I can HTTP it back to myself my service overseas downloads the legal content via torrent which is legal. And I also seed it back to the community from that service.

Thread gets back on topic and away from P2P traffic/NBZ/torrents/etc or it gets locked and infractions handed out.

Back onto the Telkom deal. I'm currently looking into it as a replacement for my vdsl.
Could the guys who have answer a few questions for me please? With 38+pages it's a bit hard to read through it all.

1. Will things like Steam/Xbox Live/PSN be counted towards the cap? With things like Games With Gold, you could easily find yourself downloading 100gb/month from Xbox Live alone.
1.1. Are regular ftp downloads counted towards the cap, or only specifically P2P and Newsgroups?
2. Upload speeds are awesome, does anybody know if hosting a Plex media server and using Telkom to upload will count towards the cap? Like viewing a show at work on the office internet, while streaming from my Plex server at home
3. Once you reach your cap, is there anyway to get back to normal speeds without waiting until a new month, like can you purchase additional data or something?

I can tell you that 1,does not count towards cap and neither does 2 afaik.
As it's gaming and streaming which are properly uncapped.

As for ftp,i don't think so but I don't know.

I have had this since February and I smash through quite a bit of bandwidth every month now. Mostly streaming and gaming. AFAIK the only things that gets capped is p2p and nntp after 50GB(of p2p or nntp). So basically think of it like this: You are fully uncapped for everything except the p2p and nntp which has a 50GB cap, and that 50GB can't be used between 18:00 and 00:00.

That's fantastic guys, those are my main concerns. Thanks, really appreciate it!

Oh and when you get capped on the p2p it is only the p2p that gets capped. Streaming and gaming and all the other stuff goes about as normal. johnny_h

I gotta say, that deal sounds pretty damn awesome. I'm already with Telkom VDSL which has uncapped from 00:00 to 06AM so I'm used to scheduling heavy downloads while having a 100gb cap during normal hours. With this I can do Xbox Live/Steam etc downloads at any time without any worries, that alone is worth it for me!
I just applied for one, hopefully they'll take their time getting it to me cause I only wanna start using it from August.

Here's another aspect I would like to find out - once the P2P cap is reached, does the P2P throttling take effect for the whole day, until month end, or only a certain time period of a day?

I have only been capped once on p2p and it was less than a week before month end. p2p was capped for the remainder of days until the new month started. So I think it is until month end.

Is there a way to see on their website if you have been capped on p2p?
