So

I'm Slapping together a El Cheapo Server for all my Media and what not.
That will also be used by my MoM to facebook and Emails (she a competition addict).
That I will Eventually upgrade and use as my main rig (as monies are there)
Now I have a CM 1000Watt PSU but it its out of my old PC that got struck by
lightning via the sweet ADSL copper and our old house being on top of a nice
Lightning rod Dolomite deposit.

Now is there a easy way to test the PSU ?
Multimeter ?
Local Matrix ?

Cos I can buy a tester at R900 but then I can just aswell buy one of these El Cheapos
Raidmax XT-Series 300W PSU
Armaggeddon Voltron Bronze 235FX Power Supply

and Worry about the PSU when I have all the upgrade parts.

#1 - the cheap multimeters were not anywhere near R900 (More like R250 - R400 for an alright version) and the good ones are R1500+

Also, it will be difficult to test a PSU at load with a multimeter as most meters are limited to 10A for 10 seconds max anyway
I worked with LV / MV ~ 24VDC -> 11kVAC in industry - so maybe someone else can assist on this point better

I'd rather get another PSU if the cost to simply check this PSU properly becomes unaffordable.
Lots of 500W - 700W PSUs lately under R1k in the PSU section.

*Edit: Looking at your links, I'm assuming you want to keep it under R500?

R300

R400

R450

R500

R700

What he said, get a cheap multi meter, stick some pins on the ends and put black into ground and red lead into each of these one at a time.

You will need to bridge out green and ground to get it to go on.

I dont think that tester you linked tests load, looks like just voltage.

Honest opinon, any electronic component that has been part of a surge/strike... replace it rather. But also my honest opinion, do not waste your money on these cheap brands.

Not helping I know.

Thanks for the reply's Got a decent 600w CM in my main rig atm
So will get a decent 300-400w for the server/facebook PC
and once I have all my parts I can just change PSU over
