Who else stayed up past midnight for the game black friday deal , only for the website to crash and kick us out?

Also FNB, the app was crashed for a good 3 hours!!!! I mean wtf is wrong with these people!!!!!!

COME ON GUYS THIS IS A TOTAL SCAM!!!!

i heard guy got ps5 at 1.30am from fnb

@yourang that was probably a FNB employee lol!!

I was up from 00:00 - 4:00 refreshing more than 1000x literally and still nothing.. :( what a load of bollocks

All this highlights is that you need better life perspective. 😁 You are nuts.

Yes it is.

You only need a small handful of people to actually get the deal and share on social media etc. for everyone to think, "next year, I have a chance" - even if, like you've shown here, the chance is basically zero.

Businesses do this because they know the attention they get from the few people who score the dramatic deal outweighs the negative press from people complaining that the site crashed or whatever.

They make a loss on a tiny handful of items, and they keep the cycle going, year after year.

All this highlights is that you need better life perspective. 😁 You are nuts.
I think blaming the consumer in this case is a bit unfair. Businesses carefully exploit people's desperation, and the higher the cost of living becomes, the easier it becomes to convince people to go to extreme measures to try score a deal.

The fnb one in particular was annoying, because their app just wouldn't manage at all. You don't know the deal is over unless the damn app loaded. For a bank, you'd expect them to be able to manage and scale capacity on the biggest shopping day of the year... Though I guess it's par for FNB.
They probably paid more for marketing the promo than what they paid for server hosting for the month.

Same thing with Game, you would think a shopping website would anticipate this kinda thing.

At least vodacom app worked for the most part, they just sold out on their extremely limited quantities super quickly.

Sucks, but such is life. It's really just a competition where if you win, you still pay for the Ps5

Scam - perhaps. Poor planning / tech implementation -def.... Elasticated servers are old news & these companies (FNB, IC etc) HAVE the financial and technical resources to make this happen...

FNB app was giving me all kinds of crap yesterday already.....

Not blaming the consumer. But a consumer clicking over a 1000 times and spending over 4 hours doing that and still not accomplishing the end goal surely has to be some level of insanity. If anything I'm blaming the corporates that tap in to the part of us that make such actions seem normal, when it's clearly not. Also, not judging anyone that spends hours and wasted effort to accomplish nothing, their lives, their choices. But normalizing it seems the wrong thing to do in my humble opinion.

Just saying is all.

To be fair, they are good deals and a Ps5's normal price may be out of reach for most people. But at that price, if a few hours makes the difference between being able to afford one and not, I would 100% spend the time and effort trying to get it

So my 2c on this whole situation.

I stayed on till 12AM on a Thursday night, then I got the item in my cart.

Then it wouldn't let me pay (using Game).

So 2 hours later, I decided to make a cup of coffee. Then when I got back it was removed from my cart..

So here's my take on this.

Game won.. They did.. They didn't want to give me my PS after fucking me around.. And then the emotional rollercoaster of getting excited then worried that I won't get it, then that feeling of MAYBE, JUST MAYBE I'M GOING TO GET THIS... I JUST NEED TO PAY... Then that disappointment of not getting it.

FUCK THAT...

Please excuse my language and frustration.

Here is my final verdict..

I buy everything from game, all my electronics, etc.. Always loved using them for convenience.. Now I will never step foot in game again. All they did was piss off a loyal customer. They only shot themselves in the foot on this one.

I guess the argument can be made that YOU only shot yourself in the foot on this one. I mean, statistically, what were the chances this would've worked in your favor? If you've enjoyed every prior purchase from the store, no complaints in the past and you did use the word "love" when referring to past experiences - seems a silly thing to prompt you to never buy from the store again.

It's all based on luck and/or great marketing - your luck just wasn't on point this time.

Adulting is hard. Reality is even harder. But we just have to deal with it :D. Most often than not, it's absolutely pointless and usually self harming throwing our toys out the cot.

Normally I would agree, my after my flood of emotions I feel cheated, so I'll just avoid them.

On the website it said first 10 to apply the promotional code will get it, or "quickest pull of the finger" or some crap like that.
Nothing on that site said "first to apply discount code and pay".. I did check it. So this wasn't clear to start with, so I took it as "I applied the code, it's due to me", which makes sense because my wife also tried a second after me and it said "code already used". So this implies that I got the code, I was one of the magical 10 to get the code applied..

I know now what I know and knowing what I know now I wouldn't have let this get to me. But after that confusion which I think was an error on games part, I will not be supporting them. I know there are a terms and conditions page available, but it wasn't apparent at the time, so I'm very sour about this. Also, when I emailed them, they apologies for the technical difficulties on their site, stuff that. If their website couldn't handle the traffic then they should have said that it would be available at a random time during the day or something so that when you've applied the discount you are able to pay. If your site can't handle the traffic then don't do it..

I don't know, I see what you are saying and I don't disagree with you, but based on principal and feeling cheated, I will not be supporting game anymore. There are many more places looking for my business and I will support anyone other than game. They played with my sleep and my emotions, so it is what it is.

Dont worry, next Black Friday will be better for PS5s. The PS5 Pro will launch and people will be selling their old PS5s all around.

Yeah @prevagov, still not sure how I’m involved :ROFLMAO:
He's hinting he wants a cheap PS5 from Progenix, to soothe the pain of missing out on the FNB deal.

Could be a marketing opportunity here -

"Disappointed in missing out on the PS5 from FNB? Come buy from Progenix! Will we offer the same discount? No! Will we offer any discount at all? Also no! Do we even sell PS5s? Absolutely not! But you can shop with us and be assured that your items won't disappear from your cart the second you've convinced yourself/your spouse/your parent that it's worth it! Buy TODAY!"

It was frustrating, i did end up getting the A54 from them and it feels so nice to pay fokol.

I just could not land that ps5 though...
