Please suggest a good ISP?

Hi Carbies

I need some advice please. I have been a customer of Wirulink for about 3 years. Currently using their 100/100 fibre package. Cannot say that ive had any issues or outages worth mentioning.

However, lately their peering has started giving issues, latency to a teamspeak server hosted in CT spiked to 165ms and trying to play any local FPS games meant a ping of 160 odd was the best i could get. Doing a Tracert to a local MWeb hosted IP showed that my traffc was being sent to London and then down to Jhb.

Ok, so that is the back story. Question, who do you recommend as ISP? Besides the smaller ones, are there any differences between the likes of Afrihost, Mweb, WebAfrica etc and is it a much of a muchness who i go with?

Been on Vox and Vumatel since fibre was available in our area. Ping is always between 2-10ms

I’ve had bad experiences with both Afrihost and MWEB. I’m currently with Cool Ideas (since May last year) and it’s been perfect. Even though my fiber provider is Open Serve, everything has been running flawlessly.

Thanks bud. I too have had some issues with Afrihost many years ago when I was still using their 10mb ADSL. But was hard to pin point if it was them becoming too big or our dear friend Telkom just being Telkom. Vox does sound like a viable option, comparing price with what I have now. But I will check what CoolIdeas offer too, thanks!
