Hi,

Gief details on importing from them. Post advice here.

K FANKS :)

Very easy.
1.Order
2.Pay
3. And they Deliver.

You can always ask Ori for his next import from them.

Troll.

Moving along... Order and pay iz no prob. The mediate between they deliver and me getting is the info I am after.

Find Ori, hit him over the head, drag him back to your lair, put infront of your pc, gives him hot choc and ask nicely :p

I imported from Performance PC's myself and it is much easier than you think.
Just like you order from PH and they send it via a courier, they do that.

Once the stuff lands in SA you can phone SA Post office to get a Local Waybill number that they assign to your order.

That is it. Once you can collect your stuff they will ask you to pay VAT though. Which depends on your order Value.

There's no way to tell when the item is in SA... oh and you need paypal + cuddit card for payments

Ever heard of Tracking and trace? The couriers inform you when the package is in SA.

You just register on PayPal, there are no extra charges and PayPal already exchange Dollars into Rand, very convenient, it might be a bit higher than the exchange rate but most likely the same as any berue de change would ask you. It literally works like a Credit card payment.

choo drop me a pm regarding this. i want to import a heatkiller waterblock for mt gtx480. let me know then we can split the shipping etc :D

You should try it out yourself some time before assuming their international tracking actually works...

Here's my steps,

Step 1: get people who want stuff to give a list
Step 2: Place the order
Step 3: Pay via Paypal - linked to their site
Step 4: Confirm delivery and all that jazz
Step 5: Get confirmation of purchase and wait for confirmation from them for Paypal clearance
Step 6: Wait
Step 7: Wait a week, start getting nervous that SAPO may just steal the package
Step 8: Wait 2 weeks crap in pants, have a hissy fit, crap on them - well just crap in pants as no notification of delivery and Tracking Site still shows shipped.
Step 9: Get letter from Customs demanding payment for Customs fees.
Step 10: Pay Customs and get item

:D

International tracking when taking the 3-5 day option works. It get's tagged with EMS tracking - which we are apart off - and you can status updates as your package travels. From the time the tracking number is assigned, the package is collected, processed, leaves US, lands in SA, clears SA customs and is en route to customer. Those are the various stages which EMS gives you when you track via the Endicia. Once you see the package has hit SA, you phone Customs in JHB or CT and ask for a local ii number. You give them them the EMS/US tracking number and you get a local one which you can then use to track it till it get's to Post office.

Tada.

When using 3-5 day shipping I've never waited more than 10 days from placing the order to receiving it. When shipping with 6-10 option however...then things can get dicey as you don't have tracking and just have to wait :-/

They do have that option, you just pay through your teeth for it if your stuff is heavy...:-/

sorry to go off-topic but i just need to say wtf fishfly where do you live, do you work for vodacom and is that speedtest a lie

Not going to disclose his secret hideout, but he does indeed work for vodacom, seen it myself :) and no, his speedtest is unfortunately not a lie :D

Going a bit off topic here, I'm waiting for a parcel from the US at the moment. For those of you using USPS, just a heads up, their tracking takes quite a while to update, sometimes 2+ days, so don't panic if you don't see any activity.

Secondly, once the package arrives in SA, it is no longer tracked by USPS, as Ori said, you have to call the international mail center @ 0860 111 50 and give them your tracking no. They will then tell you whether the parcel has arrived in the country and if so, provide you with a local ii tracking no.

Be warned though, from personal experience I can tell you that a parcel can lay dormant at customs for 7+ days without being logged, resulting in you being told it isn't in country yet and you fearing the worst.

Customs can also take ages to clear your package, especially if there is no invoice attached (they will request one, which can easily add another week waiting time), the package is marked as a gift or the declared value seems too low. Also note that they can fine you for deliberately declaring a false value for the item (R1500 last time I checked), so watch out.

I can't stress enough how important it is to have tracking on any parcel ordered from overseas, if you go for services such as USPS Priority mail (which is untracked) prepare for a possible dose of nationalization :)

Lastly, if you can, try to avoid shipping to PO Boxes, as you'll have to deal with SAPO and possible further delays/damage/theft of your item. Courier if you can.

Pay the premium and rest easy.

Hey guys, I want to order some gear form PPC. This would be my first order so I am not 100% sure I am comfortable ordering form the states. Is there anyone that is ordering anytime soon, I would like to order with them.

Thx guys

I may be ordering sometime in the new year - perhaps February

That could work, I am getting some pc gear from a friend in Feb, he is coming from the states. Torn between WC gear, (2,240 + 360 Rad, 2x d5 pumps turing and other fittings,....) or new 2011 parts, (MB and CPU + SSD).

Think i might just go with the pc stuff. Besides, there is a hellava special on 120GB SSD at new egg, $195. bargain.... getting 4 x Force 3 GT 120 GB ssd drives. The problem is space, and those drives are relatively small. The cpu as well... The MB might be a problem though...

Is it possible for him to build a pc, declare it at customs, and then go back with "the same" pc, with lets say some "exchanged" parts. hehe *Cough*

?

4xSSD? what for?

as for customs... it's not allowed to declare a pc and then change parts as the value and items differ. *cough*

i know this thread is old...
^fishy, how do the customs people know the value of your pc?
also, exactly how hard is it to order from the america's (places like ppc)?

Well the last time I bought my Canon G9 camera from Taiwan for R2900 - invoice and all priced after exchange rate conversion - Customs wanted to keep my camera as they "deemed" it does not cost R2900 here in SA... I told them look at my invoice and the reason why I didn't buy the camera here in SA as it would have costed me 5k for the same camera here in SA than it costed me to bring one back.

They decided against keeping my camera in the end
