I'm looking to get a screen for primarily gaming and some light Office/browsing and other work related usage. Current setup is a Lenovo Legion Y540 laptop with 15.6" 144Hz screen. It gets the job done brilliantly, but thinking a 24" will just be so much nicer.

Minimum requirements:
  1. 24" Full HD (or 27" WQHD to future proof)
  2. 144Hz refresh rate
  3. VA or IPS panel (from the research I've done, seems these are the panel options to go for, for all-round usage?)
The idea is to build a high-end home PC at some stage later this year that can run this screen in a dual screen setup. Alternatively should I just jump straight to a 27" WQHD 144Hz screen and just down scale for now when connected to the laptop?

This brings me to the next question, flat panel or curve? I suppose two curved screens next to each other won't work as well as flat panels? What about one 27" curved screen, anyone use one and what is the impression?

Brand wise I'm not to hung up, although all the TV's and half the appliances in my house is Samsung. Budget wise, well the cheaper I can do it the better, as it will leave money for the PC build.

Appreciate any input, advise & suggestions.

What GPU is in that Lenovo? Do you ever get 144FPS or close to that on any games at any settings? The problem with laptops bundled with those refresh rate screens is usually the GPU doesn't have enough juice to actually make the combo make any sense IMO.

What I recently discovered with buying one of the Checkers monitors, is that external displays on Laptops can be finicky. My 144Hz external monitor is stuck on 120Hz for example.
So make sure you have the HDMI/DP ports needed to push whatever refresh rates / resolutions.

One of these: Lenovo Legion Y540 | 15-inch Gaming Laptop | Lenovo South Africa with the i7-9750 and RTX2060. Honestly don't know if I'm getting it at present, can I test it?

Was looking at one of those screens, still unsure though. The laptop does have HDMI 2.0 and mini DisplayPort 1.4 connections.

Thanks google. Screen is running at 144Hz. Would it be a big or noticeable difference if I go to a 60 or 75Hz screen? They be much friendlier on the pocket.

Went past Makro this morning to go and have a look at the LG 24MK400H-B on special for R1899.

Must say I'm very pleased with it so far. Took some time to set up the colour and can't fault it in any way so far.

Will safe up for a proper 27" WQHD, but for now, happiness.
