Recently upgraded my PC, i have 3x 4GB DDR4 Kingston sticks (all same specs). All worked on my previous CPU and showed 12GB in WIndows

Now that i put in the new CPU it is not booting if i put the 3rd stick leaving me with only 8GB, it will only boot with 2 sticks.

Any idea? Thanks

I tried 1 by 1 and different slots, reseating etc no luck.

Hi Bud,

All the ram modules from same manufacturer? Speed the same ? Latency the same ?

try putting only two sticks in but put stick 3 in the place of stick 2, this way you eliminate the ram being faulty

Edit: you can also try just testing the sticks one at a time

Hi there. Yes. All are Kingston with only one module differing in model name. Its 2 KVR24N17S6/4 And one KVR24N17S8/4

Hi there. Tried this now and the stick works that wasn't working on the 3rd slot. So ram is good

It used to work before on the same motherboard i am using now with a less powerful cpu I had.

I went from a i3 8100 to a i9 9900.
On the ASUS B360F STRIX

The 12gb worked fine on this same mobo
Just 8 working now though on the new cpu.

Check your BIOS settings, make sure dual channel is on or whatever else you may need regarding RAM.

I would just dump those RAMs and get 16gb of something. the stuff is relatively cheap now

Okay that is your problem, I9 9900 only support Dual Channel ram, will not detect the ram in 3rd slot :)
But if he sets 2 ram sticks up to work in dual channel (1,3) then the 3rd ram stick can work in the 2nd dual chanel mode (2,4)

Pretty sure its a bios setting

I did actually try resetting BIOS to default as well as enabling and disabling dual channel and slots and trying no luck still only boots with 2 sticks

Same shit happened to me. You sure all of the slots are working? Try testing them in the other 2 slots? My case a pin on the cpu socket was bent. After bending it back, the ram worked.

Haha yeah definitely i thought i could just use my 12 and upgrade to 16 this week, there goes my plans lol! and what if i get the 4th stick and still doesn't work since 1 of them is a slightly different model. I think my best bet is to get dual channel 8x2 or 1x16 for now to solve my problem, thanks again guys!

Now that i think about it that might of happened, i tried putting the plastic cpu cover while i had no cpu to cover from dust and it might of touched! darn it! I dont wanna try bending it back if its bent so i will just get dual channel for now or 1 16gb!

This is the way to go. Get 2x8gb for dual channel rather than 1x16gb. You can't have a R9k CPU without RGB Ram btw. It won't be as fast

Haha yeah ....must...resist....RGB... thanks all for the time and help will be spending my time on the RAM section now posting these sticks for sale! Another friend also said since its a different CPU and mem controller is on CPU it might work different, either that or bent pin which i also suspect, either way its dual channel from here for me!

Dude get that bent pin fixed if its that. The pin can create more issues than just ram if I'm not mistaken. @ScorpioMan86 fixed mine which had like freakn 15 bent pins - for next to nothing. I can't recommend him enough.
