Hi all,

I am in desperate need of some help here as I have exhausted all options that I know of with my PC.
The current issue I am facing is that all games that I run keep crashing when I open them and they start going to the Main Menu of ANY game. Sometimes I can get a few minutes in before my games freezes and completely closes.
It all started a little while ago out of the blue. I have never tried to overclock or downclock my pc and I have no idea what could be causing this.
Some BSOD errors I get are - CLOCK_WATCHDOG_TIMEOUT and UNEXPECTED KERNEL MODE TRAP.

I will add some screenshots of errors I get for games like Pacific Drive (Which used to work perfectly btw).
My CS2 never crashed (actually no games crashed and after having my new pc for a few months, it just started getting problems after problems) now it crashes every few minutes when I play. Bare in mind, my games run at Max quality or the lowest quality it still crashes.

All my current parts are from Wootware just over a year old EXCEPT my CPU (i9 14900 KF) as that was replaced recently when I took the PC in to them to have a look at it. They said my previous CPU (i9 13900 KF) was faulty after doing some stress tests. Now after doing all that, I still get the same issues a week or 2 after getting my PC back from them. I am thinking of just taking it back to them as I think it could be related to my Motherboard (ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS D4) but that is just a wild guess from me.
I can't think it could be my GPU as I would expect artifacts popping up and other sorts of issues.

Things i have tried to remediate my issues are :
  • I changed from Windows 10 to 11 and the same issues happen
  • I changed my Virtual Paging memory to 20000 MB to test and issue persists
  • I turned off my CPUs parked cores and issues persist
  • I uninstalled my NVIDIA drivers with DDU in Safe Mode and reinstalled just the driver itself

If anyone can provide me with some guidance here, it would be VERY MUCH appreciated.

Let me know if you need any other info as I will provide them as needed.

My current PC spec is as follows:

CPU - i9 - 14900 KF
CPU Cooling - Corsair CW-9060046 iCUE H100i Elite Capellix 240mm Liquid CPU Cooler + Corsair CW-8960091 LGA1700 Retrofit Kit for Corsair LGA 1200 & LGA 115x AIO Coolers
MB - ASUS TUF GAMING Z690-PLUS D4
RAM - 64 GB F4-4000C18D-32GTZN Trident Z Neo 32GB (2x16GB) DDR4-4000MHz CL18 1.4V
GPU - MSI RTX 4080 Suprim X 16 GB
SSD 1 - Samsung SSD 990 PRO 1TB (Windows Loaded)
SSD 2 - Samsung SSD 980 Pro with Heatsink 2TB
PSU - CoolerMaster V1200 1200W 80+ Platinum Fully Modular Power Supply / Silent 135 mm FDB Fan / Japanese Capacitors / RSC00-AFBAG1

How much dedicated memory does your task manager indicate under the performance tab?

Ok so, identify which service/application is throwing that error in task manager.

When it pops up, open task manager and see which service has 5-10 of the same thing in it.

Uninstall that shit

You can try run an benchmark overlay while running a game to see what is being used in real time, here is an example video,

You should also check your event viewer to see what is triggering the errors for the bsod.

I recall seeing this on 13th Gen and a work around was to undervolt them.

Okay, so first weird thing that just happened when you suggested me do this, is I opened CS2 and kept Task manager open on the processes tab and my screens just went black and my pc restarted.

I read a few threads now, and this seems to be issues with the 40 series cards but also could be CPU's.

Will try this and get back to you. The BSOD's don't often happen but only if I try do certain things. One weird one is if I go to Wargamings Website to login, the site keeps crashing and if I spam refresh it and try and open it, my PC Blue Screens. (Weirdest issue I have ever seen)
I will try and record a video of it and post here.

I tried the undervolting with my 13th gen and that didn't help. I tried The Finals and my game also kept crashing with the "Out of video memory error"

I have the Trio card of the same brand and line-up. I have had 0 issues, but I am on AM4/DDR4 and not intel.

Maybe try and downclock your RAM and try again?

It could be RAM incompatibility or possibly an inferior IMC as well. 4 x 16GB sticks at 4000MT/s is quite a tall order

Also have you tried the simple bypass of this error just incase where you set the memory dump to small?

Was going to say try one ram stick at a time but each system has it's own set of problems.

Was this system always in a working state and just gradually got worse?

It was always in a working state and got gradually worse as time went by. I have no idea why.

My testing skills are not that high, but how do I set the memory dump to small?

Tried downclocking my RAM to base speed which is 2666MHZ but it still just crashes. Opened CS2 now and got to the main menu just for my PC to freeze and me having to hard shut down it.

Before I purchased this I made sure about compatibility, and confirmed with them as well if it would work and they confirmed. What do you mean regarding the second option?

Use Testmem5 with the ANTA777 extreme config to test the memory for 2 passes.
Remove one of the DIMMS and try that.
Update your BIOS.

Could be a faulty RAM chiplet that's within the first 16gigs of RAM so when it starts to fill up, you get issues.

You can try update your GPU firmware from techpowerup.

If that doesnt work then try get some bootable software that can check the VRAM, like Memtest x86 but for GPU's

The CPU's memory controller, but it is strange that it gradually got worse, especially with two different CPU's

I assume you're a windows 11 user

Go to System > Advanced System Settings > Startup & Recovery > Settings > Change from Automatic Memory Dump to Small Memory Dump... please note this only works on a few systems and usually does not fix the actual issue but gets around the Kernel Mode error

@JollyJamma has a pretty well setup test scenario for you to play out it'll just take some time

Although ram doesn't usually tend to gradually get worse, it usually just works or does not unless you're throwing it around and beating it while nobody is looking

In BIOS, set the SVID Behavior to “Typical Scenario” and make sure that Multicore Enhancement is disabled (Enforce Intel Limits). Auto SVID Behavior on Strix/Maximus boards is Trained, which is usually good. On TUF boards, the only viable options are Best Case Scenario and Typical Scenario. If the board is setting Best Case by default, then that would definitely explain it. Other than that, there are some things I’ll discuss below.

This issue seems to be a matter of the board vendors finally being exposed for their absurd practices. If you head to the Intel official site, the 13900K/14900K are both specified to run at their P-core turbos of 5.4G and 5.6G respectively. MB vendors take it upon themselves to pre-OC your chip by one P-core boost bin. Combined with bad BIOS optimising in the way of VRM controllers, and the fact that degradation also occurs during any AVX operation because the stock power limits are 4096W (also against spec), this becomes an utter mess. For some reason it’s taken a while for users to begin complaining, but it was inevitable.

With 12th-gen, Intel spec was 5.1P/3.9E, and board vendors knew that that would not be a viable stock spec, so all 12900Ks run at 4.9P/3.7E on the V/F curve out of the box. Some samples simply do not scale with voltage, and unfortunately, it seems like both your 13900KF and 14900KF could not reliably hit that vendor-augmented 5.5P/5.7P V/F point. If those chips were run at Intel spec, this issue would most likely cease.

Okay, so I just changed the settings to what you suggested above and tried CS2 again and it crashed again.

So back at square one again.
Really do appreciate this message, as I feel like it could be my MB that is the issue currently.

Yes, sorry, I am on Win11 after getting it back from Wootware, they set it up with Win11 and I just left it as is.

I went to these settings and it seems it was already set to Small Memory Dump when I tried to change it.

I can test the RAM or take it to Wootware to further test it. Will have to deep dive after work today

If you were closer I'd test it for you bud and get to the bottom of the issue, however sadly you're not.

I'll see myself out of this thread though as the saying goes there are currently too many cooks in the kitchen here.

I really hope you come right because PCs can be tools of great happiness

Don't be a tool to the other cooks

You could try setting core ratio to 56 (spec for the 14900K), and then head into the Thermal Velocity Boost, and select the option to “Boost Until Target.”

This might sound stupid, but can you check which nvidia drivers are installed? (workstation/gaming). On one of the windows emulations i was running on linux a while back had the same issue, then i realized the image i was trying to game on i also installed the workstation drivers.
