Hey there guys.

So I recently purchased an AV receiver second hand, an Onkyo TX-NR696, and it didn't power on when I tried testing it. Now I've been weighing my options as it'd be costly to send it back and wait for it to get fixed so before I write it off as hopeless and send it back for a refund I wanna explore what else I can do. So naturally fixing it for less than it would cost to send it back would be great because I'll likely not be able to get a better receiver for the money.

So can anyone help point me to someone trusted around Pretoria so I can get a sense of how much it would cost to have it checked out. Or if anyone has a ballpark amount of the cost to fix common issues with these receivers then please also share.

Planetworld in Sandton is\was an authorized repair center. They charge a R450 assessment fee, which is deducted off of the quote if you choose to go ahead with it.
Note that Onkyo is no more. I'm not sure if it affects part availability. Probably best to phone Planetworld and check what the current situation is.

You can courier it to them as well. I've done it before. Just let them know beforehand. I would advise phoning them first and enquiring about part availability for Onkyo though.
I'm not sure if there's any place closer to Pretoria. I was referred to them by all of the retailers I've enquired with. Used them 3 times so far and can't really complain about the service I've received.
