I now own a Samsung Neo G9 and was content with my life and setup until I strolled into a store on the weekend and spotted someone playing a game on a Samsung G8. Now I can't help but imagine how Cyberpunk would look on an OLED monitor.

I'm researching OLED monitors and it appears that there are many complaints regarding Samsung G8 burn in after roughly a year and no guarantee for burn in. The Alienware offers a three-year guarantee, but reportedly they do not replace out monitors, instead giving you a refurbished monitor, and there have been complaints about scratched or older refurbished monitors.

I've always received good advice on this forum so I was curious what everyone else thought. My question is, given the high cost of these monitors, is it worth the risk? What is the expected lifespan of an OLED monitor? I think a lot of people on this forum might have had their OLED monitors for at least 2 years now.

OLED tech has improved alot over the years but personally I would not use it on my pc just yet, I have an OLED TV and it works great there but on PC where there are inherently static elements on screen for hours at a time there will be inevitable burn in. If you use the monitor exclusively for gaming or watching movies though, then shoudn't be an issue.

Copy and pasting something I posted on a different forum:

Been using my [LG] C1 48" every single day for the last 2.5 years (give or take).

Zero burn in. I use it for software dev so there is a lot of static stuff on the screen, but no burn in so far.

Tim from Hardware Unboxed got the AW3423DW and despite not using the monitor for productivity stuff very much he noticed very faint burn-in in the centre line of the screen after around a year. It's not noticeable in general use but when you do a burn-in test you can see it.

The LG OLED tech is apparently more resistant to burn-in.

But I wouldn't get an OLED if I was going to be spending more than a few minutes a day doing work. I'd happily get it for my TV or a PC that I would use for only games, not a PC doing any work or more than occasional light web browsing.

Rtings has been running a burn-in longevity test: Longevity Burn-In Test: Updates And Results From 100 TVs

lg oled does burn in a lot slower than the samsung oled.

I use my 65CX as a monitor on the pc and there has been no trace of burn in. But I also have a 1 minute delay for a screen saver to kick in, and I never use my pc even for browsing unless I want to download something. I exclusively play games with it via Xbone controller like a console so yeah I think even after 5 years I wouldn't notice burn in if ever.

I have 3 LG OLED TV's in my house - 2 C7's and one older 1080p one.. All 3 have some degree of burn in.
You learn to live with it, but don't be fooled, you use a console, watch sports or browse menus alot and you will get some degree of burn in.
Is it the end of the world? No, but if your OCD about stuff like that then it is going to bug you a lot.

Maybe the newer ones are better at delaying it but over 5-10 years I dont think you can avoid it. Picture quality is great though so who cares - if its disposable income - buy it and enjoy.

One more thing to add, if I remember correctly the way current model OLEDS prevent burn in is by evening out the wear on each pixel. So what it does is when you switch off the monitor does not fully go off, instead it checks the voltages of each pixel and if the measurements are not within tolerance it will wear out the surrounding pixels until they all are within a certain acceptable range. So while you may not see the burn in, your monitor will over time be losing brightness.

I ended up ordering one from Samsung. Everything I hoped for. What settings do you use @dakdriver.
Honestly, only played MW3 for about an hour on it this far. Been a hectic week, so haven't played around with it too much. But so far I'm really very happy!
